I recently acquired a faulty 37780 ICE-3. It's in reasonably tidy condition but the decoder is fried.

I see three options;

1: Repair the existing decoder (depending on how badly damaged) - beyond my capability because I don't have any SMD soldering equipment

2: Replace the Decoder with a new Märklin replacement or equivalent

3: Replace with an alternate brand Decoder and maybe improve performance and features

I guess sound would be nice, but I'd be more interested in the capability to add sound later than needing it right away.

As for other features, well it's an ICE so kinda limited. Smooth control is important, Head and Tail lights obviously, and Interior lighting. The only other thing I'd really love would be pantograph control but that's a serious bit of kit-bashing to achieve that or at least until some clever-clogs designs a very compact and reliable retrofit replacement.

Suggestions welcome

Regards

Hi Cookee. I don't believe parts for the 37780 are readily available anymore.

I have a 34780 Delta version of the ICE3 train which I purchased from Green Ahead in Palmerston North, which I was looking to convert to digital.

There is a company in Germany who manufacture and sell a replacement board for the 37780 / 34780 to which an ESU Loksound decoder can be fitted. The catch is the German company does not post outside of Europe. A nice kind forum friend kindly purchased 2 of these boards for me and then on sent them to me - one was for me, the other was for Glen Cometti. You could ask Glen whether he has used his and whether he would sell it to you, or follow the same path I did.

I opened a thread on how I converted the train, all of the details are there. I'll see if i can find it for you.

Thanks Dave, do you by chance still have the original Delta decoder? - it would enable me to at least confirm everything else works and give it a test run while deciding what do do next?

Pretty please?? Love

The shop that makes the circuit board is in Austria. I was able to recently obtain a circuit board from them for my ICE3. I could not find it on their website, so I e-mailed them and they got back to me in a few days.

The link to the actual webpage for the circuit board is given in the thread I referred to.

Seems the link no longer exists, so you will have to email them instead.

Cookee I don't think this is an option either even if one came up at that price:

there are other options open and definitely cheaper ones going on the above website, I've converted an ICE one, took the circuit board out replace it with an ESU sound decoder, 2 motors, 2 speakers and an adapterplate
