Most likely not. It depends on when the MS2 in the set was made.

Some dealers will update the MS2 before they ship the starter set.

How old is the 2.5 version?

How is it updated? By the CS2, I imagine?

If so, how does one who bought the MS2 on e-bay get it updated?

I believe v2.5 is the"newest" version.....You need a friend with a CS2, or a friend who has a MS2 with 2.5 already loaded. simply connect the 2 MS2's to the connector box, and follow the prompts. I updated mine over the weekend from v2.3 to v2.5 from a friend who had v2.5 loaded on the MS2.
v2.5 was brought out to solve the speed control bug/defects, sometimes the loco would speed up whilst slowing down, or vice-versa......however, 2 of my older MS2's still have the speed control issue after installing v2.5!
My newer MS2, with hardware v2.1 (all my others have v2.0) seems to be OK...

Or by MS2. Only the CS2 can pull the latest version from the Internet.

I don't recall whether it came with CS2 version 3.8.1 or with a later version. Four months or ten months or so.

...let's hope the MS3 (whenever) will enable a flash drive to be fitted so that updates are easily installed ....Smile

That would be sooooo useful!

I don't know why they assume that everyone has access to a CS2 or a local dealer for updates????

At the moment the cheapest way for me to update my MS2 is to order a brand new one....
