Hi all.

I'm in town, just for the day and wondered if there were any retailers of Marklin?

Cheers,

Michael.

Greetings Michael - welcome to windy Wellington Huh

Yes, sadly there are no Marklin retailers in Wellington. There is one hobby shop in the city, Modelcrafts and Hobbies – 125 Victoria St – just along from Manners St. They are more into radio controlled cars and kitsets. Some British trains.

www.modelcraftsandhobbies.co.nz

From their website:

“Modelcrafts and Hobbies have been supplying hobbyist’s needs since 1956. We are specialists in scale model cars, bikes, aircraft, military, realspace, sci-fi etc kitsets and Radio Control hobby items and tools.”

Also, if you have time/transport – there Mack’s Track at Plimmerton Station, north of Wellington.

From their web site:

“Mack's Track Shop is a full-line Model Train Shop stocking leading brands from the following manufacturers:
Aristo-Craft, Athearn HO & N scale, Atlas 0. HO & N scale, Bachmann G, Large, O, On30, HO, OO & N scale,Dapol, Digitrax, Frateschi, Grafar, Hornby OO & N scale, IHC, Lilliput, Kato HO & N scale, Mantua, Model Power, Peco OO & N Scale, LGB, Life Like Proto 1000, 2000 & N scale, Lima, Powerline, Rivarossi and Walthers.

Funnily enough Modelcrafts & Hobbies used to be a Marklin dealer in the 60's, sort of took over from the Lamphouse, and is were half of my childhood Marklin Trains, (3021 V200 & 3016/4018 Railbus) and most, if not all, of the Faller Models I had on my layout, came from RollEyes
At the time, they also stocked some Fleischman and Rivarossi, which the then manager of the shop, clearly preferred, but I was not to be messed with, it was Marklin for me Wink
Back then, in the 60's, they were in the, (then new) still standing, old Racing Conference Building on the corner but it was called Farish St in those days. They never sold bikes then, Couchman Cycles, a few doors along, in the Dominion Building IIRC, sold bikes and Triang/Hornby Trains, where my first trains came from, around 1960 Scared

From what I saw at Mack's Track on the Sunday of the 40th, whilst waiting for our excursion train, I don't think a trip out there is really worth it for a Marklnist

" Every Marklin layout needs a V200, a Railbus and a Banana car", not to mention a few Black and red Steamers, oh and the odd Elok !

CS1 Reloaded, Touch Cab, C Track Modules, K track layout all under construction. Currently Insider

According to the Marklin Website, he is still listed as a dealer under Train Technology, same address as his TV Repair Business.

And one would think to remain listed as such there must be some trading going on - perhaps for a loyal or select clientele? :-)
