This morning I managed to pick up two Hamo Re 460 locos (8350 and 8352) for a good price from my dealer. I was about to buy the motor conversion kits and I realised that these should already be DC motors. Just to confirm - is it true to say that I only need to add a decoder, slider and new front bogie to these units?

Hi Adrian

As both these locos are Hamo, then your assumption that they have DC motors is correct, though I suspect that they are only 3 pole DCM's, not the 5 pole DCM's that Marklin later developed. You presumably know that you can check by simply removing the body and looking at the motor block, so I assume you don't yet have the locos.

I have a number of locos fitted with the 3 pole DCM and Hamo magnet that have been converted to DCC and they run reasonably well, though the coging effect of the motor at slow speed is more pronounced. I am in the process of upgrading all my locos to the 5 pole DCM as funds permit.
