Hi everyone!

I recently received a few boxes of vintage Märklin for free from a neighbor of my parents. The boxes had been stored away and apparently there had been some kind of water problem in the warehouse so most of the items had suffered some damage such as rusting etc. I had to throw away lots of M-tracks and a couple of tinplate coaches due to excessive rust but I still managed to save quite a nice amount of things, including two 4027 coaches, some freight wagons, a working crane with its original box and three locos in their original blue boxes (3021, 3080 and 3031).

One of the items was this poor railcar that had just been wrapped around some toilet paper. It had suffered quite a lot and the gears were all stuck but it went through some maintenance and fortunately it is now working very well! Smile

However, I would like to know what version this is? I suspect it's one of the older ones due to only having two headlamps and the "Märklin" text written in the side. The number is 159190. Other markings include "EAW Kassel, BW Stuttgt" and "DB800".

DB 800 K or 3016, produced for 4 years from 1955-1958, the only question is is it red or dark red > if it is red it was produced 1959

I suppose it's dark red, at least when comparing to my other 3016 rail bus that was bought new from the store in the 90's and came in a plain white box with plastic insert. That one is clearly brighter red and has the "DB" logo in it. And yeah the 3016 is familiar to me but I just wanted to know if this was 3016.1 or 3016.2 and so on..

So this is the DB 800 K then? RollEyes

Looks just like my DB800/3016 with the exact same color tone and decals but yours is in better shape. Can't tell you which point number (don't know enough), but mine is 'red' based on having both 'red' and 'dark red' trailer cars. Don't have any newer one to compare with.

Okay thanks for all the info. Will have to check the colors with a live example to compare with. It's so hard to determine it from photographs, as they tend to change the colors, especially the brightness quite a lot :)

Here's a video of the restored railcar for you all to enjoy! I love the warm light this model gives so I couldn't resist turning the room lights off Tongue

Hi all,

Strange, I just received these two yesterday, hopefully you can see the difference in the red colour.

Ian.

Strange , the same happened to me Ian . My DB800K set are different colours but they have the eyebrow windows in both the power unit and the trailer . In mine the power unit 3016 is the dark red one. EddieThumpUp ThumpUp

Hi Eddie,

Those are both power units.

I'm still on the look out for one with the eyebrow windows.

Ian.
