The Tender Steam locomotive is use in East Germany with Deutsche Reichsbahn date between 1960 and 1990.

Any idea what is the circle on cab window? Most are BR01.5 , BR03 and some others.

See red arrow with BR01.5

Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

Hello Steven,

As alluded to by Shane, it certainly does look like a "clearview".
(See, e.g. : http://www.alibaba.com/s...-clear-view-screen.html)

These are used in marine situations to keep a viewing section of the forward windscreen clear of spray from the waves or rain. The inner part of the circle actually rotates at some speed and thus centrifugal force causes the spray and droplets to be moved to the periphery of the circular screen.

I have never seen them in a railway situation which makes me wonder if indeed that is the nature of the object.

Regards,

PJ

There are some Belgian/Luxemburg diesel locos that appear to have a similar construction in the windscreens on the Marklin models.
