Hi, I have a TRX digital train layout and I receive as a gift two 2015 Piko and Roco locomotives. What is necessary to add (special decoder??) to run with the digital mobile station.

thanks in advance

Hi Nicolas,

The TRIX digital locomotive(s) you own, run on the two rail system, and the Roco and Piko locos are presumably the same.
If they already have decoders in them, you need to place the loco on the track, and call up (key in) the decoder address on your mobile station.
Do this separately for each locomotive.
Maybe it is a default '3'. Check that it responds to the throttle.
Then change the address (Edit Locomotive) to some other #, like the loco number for example.

If the Roco and Piko are not digital, purchase a decoder (like Marklin MLD3 or MSD3) for each locomotive.
This requires fitting or soldering.

regards
Kimball

I have a couple of PIKO loks. Yes just buy an 8 pin decoder.

ESU or Marklin (if you have a MS1,2 or CS2 Marklin decoders would be easier).

There is a little room in the loks if you want sound. I put sound in my PIKO loks.

Märklin decoders require soldering: you get a decoder with cables and you get a plug.
With ESU, the plug is already soldered to the cables.

Current locos from Piko and Roco sometimes need decoders with PluX 12 or PluX 22. Such decoders are not available from Märklin.

Before buying a decoder, check the loco manual or the Piko website.

Tom

Tom, You are correct to check the manual. I do it all the time.
I also pull the cover off to see how much room there is...at least for the decoder (usually no problem) and to see if I can add a speaker for sound and how larger (the larger the speaker, the better the sound quality).
I did not know that PIKO is going with PluX 12 or 22. I will keep a closer eye.
Thanks.
