I went down to John's Photo and Hobby in Toronto, Ontario, Canada yet again and I was interested in his one and ONLY Marklin HO tank engine he has in stock which is a 0-8-0 BR 92. Its an old Marklin model no sound at all and has the old Delta system in there price was $365 plus tax, negotiated the price after tax to $400 still walked away from the deal. Our taxes is 13% here. I believe that was very steep for such a small locomotive. I ended up finding out this other store Westend Trains and ended up getting the new Marklin start up 0-6-0 BR 89 for only $110 plus taxes which was a deal of the century to me! Took her home right then when finally buying my new 6646 controller. Thing pulls well and can take off like a rocket! Danny

Joined: 14/03/2005(UTC) Posts: 15,839 Location: Gibraltar, Europe		Hi Danny, I have the Br92 which I bought from an ebay dealer for a lot less than $400 and it had even been converted with a proper digital decoder. I think you were right to walk away from it at that price. If I were you I would consider buying online from European dealers. You'll save a lot of money! At the moment I would recommend the Br74 36740 or its Era I version 36741. Both are good, well detailed models for beginners and cost not much more than the simple loco you bought. The DB version is also available split from starter sets at very reasonable prices.
		Ray Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

I might just go back to Westend Trains he had three or more tank engines one was $244 dollars and the other was $349.99 plus tax and that one comes with sound MFX decoder. Danny

Not a tank, but dollar for value, Marklin 36242 or 36243 (BR24, 2-6-0, a small tender locomotive) is great value for money. 36242 has sound and smoke, sound and a mfx decoder from the factory. 36243 Has sound and an mfx decoder from the factory. Smoke can be added. On the subject of tanks, BR85 (2-10-2) is one of my favorites. A few of the catalog numbers over the past few years; 37095, 37096, 37097, 37098 (two pack, but you can normally get 37098-01 or 37098-02 on eBay from European dealers, don't forget to ask if they'll remove VAT tax for international buyers). -Brandon

Joined: 10/08/2009(UTC) Posts: 3,443		Yeah,i like the Br 85 also,the prototype basically used the wheelset of the much heavier series 44,and the boiler from series 65. This was a small series of only some 20 locomotives,used for steep hills in the Black Forrest. Note also analogue versions 3308 DRG/3309 DB,and Delta 33081. Of course,these older versions did not have sound. I also like the 30322 series 81,nice detail for such a small loco,it has a metal hood.
