Hello Again,
My question concerns an older Central Station Pt# 60212. What is the difference between hooking up with the feeder wire as opposed to using the contol box Pt# 24088. Also there are two ports on the back of the unit to feed the track. What is the difference between these? I have the manual, but it is not as clear as it could be. What is the maximum locos that can be controlled with this unit? Thanks in advance, Steve

Using 24088 is more beginner friendly, but technically there is no difference.

One for main track, one for programming track. Insulate both centre rail and outer rails between main track and programming track.
You don't need a programming track for mfx locos.

Max. output is 2.8 A with versions up to 2.0.4 and 4 A with 3.0.0 and higher (ESU update, discontinued).

The power consumption of a running loco varies between 0.2 A and 1.5 A, allowing 2 to 12 locos to run.

Thanks Tom,

Main track and programming track? Can you elaborate? Since you seem to have some experience with this unit, is it programmed with all Marklin power units available at date of issue of the Central Station? There are two speed control knobs, but you say up to twelve units can be controlled; my guess would be if that's the case, you need to keep a sharp eye on what's happening around the circuit. There are two speed knobs for direct control, but it has power for more than two locos running at the same time. Mobile Stations can be added to get more speed knobs.

The programming track is used to change settings of programmable MM decoders (address, max. speed, acceleration and braking delay).

The CS is meant for the 60 VA transformer 60052/60055. Smaller transformers can be used, but can lead to problems when the transformer switches off due to overload.
DC power supplies can also be used.

BTW: You do not need batteries in the CS if you always shut down properly. You do not need batteries in it when you store it.
Several units have been damaged by leaking batteries.
