Hi,
On the online website http://www.drehscheibe-online.de/foren/read.php?17,7500607
I discovered this picture, taken in 1965.
It shows the E10.3 (of which one Marklin model is 39120) in what appears to be "reverse colouring" to the norm of beige over blue, or all blue, or blue over black of that time.

http://www.tram-kassel.de/dso/hiba/GB1965/6507929_E10%20383_FF_19650805-02_Ba.jpg

The norm.

http://www.tram-kassel.de/dso/hiba/GB1965/6507937_E10%201268%20TEE21_FF_19650805-02.jpg

Fascinating.

regards
Kimball

This era III guy is interested. It would be nice to have something different. Maybe M with notice.

Era 3
DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe
But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

At that time DB made a few experiments to improve the visibility of locomotives.
The bright grey also improved the visibility of dirt and was not used for main series locomotives.

Liliput made that livery, Roco made other experimental liveries (so did Märklin for BR 111).
Märklin could make them, too.

Tom

Hi everyone,

The E 10.3 in Kimball's first picture would have been a suitable and prototypical Märklin Magazin Anniversary model, but Märklin preferred an E 03 in a fantasy livery ...

Best regards,
Mark
Best regards, Mark

I like Märklin items produced in the 1960s or early '70s, but also digital locos & current rolling stock.

That makes sense and my first impression (sorry guys for not seeing the funny side Wink ) was that it is the conventional first blue and Black colour scheme with the Black repainted in Grey, you can also clearly see the grey overspray on the buffers !

I just had a look at my 39120, and that's it !

I agree it would have made a more appropriate and probably better selling MM anniversary Lok.

Still M could find a reason for this Lok, but shame it won't be SDS...... hmmm at the risk of starting a run on used 39120's I guess it (the grey colour) could be done with an airbrush, but then there's the printing RollEyes

Maybe it was an Australian (Way Down Under) paint shop that. did it. Nice colour scheme though, would make for a great Marklin model.

Hi Glen,
Interesting comments from all.

Regarding the buffers, I believe these were also painted grey.
The black you see on the buffers is actually the result of rubbings from the adjacent coach buffer.
The shanks of the buffer clearly show as black.

The picture must have been taken only a day or two after the loco was shopped, probably brand new from the works.
There does not appear to be any dust or grime on the lower sections.
No doubt there are enthusiasts with archival tables, showing the exact date when this loco was put into service.

regards
Kimball

Other livery variations can be seen here:
http://www.bundesbahnzei...ge.php?id=Baureihe%20110

See picture #08 to see E 10 477 with moustaches.
On picture #14 you see 110 365 with white triangles at the front.

Different shades of grey were used for the frame - also see #07 in the thread.

E 10 300 with one single-arm pantograph and a maximum speed of 300 km/h is also a candidate for an interesting one-time series IMHO. See picture #31.
