I want to do plenty of switching on my layout, but it won't be that big (about 40"x80") I plan on using an ms2, as long as it can easily control turnouts. Basically, the questions I have are:
1. How does the ms2 control turnouts,

2. Can you put your layout into it like a cs2?

3. If not what is the cheapest controller that can?

And while I am at it, 4. Is there a list of all Marklin compatible controllers?

Thanks.

Re 2: No.

Re 1: The screen shows two turnouts at a time (those two can be triggered), and you can page through the list of turnouts.
Turnouts and signals look the same, there is no support for threeway turnouts or signals with more than 2 states. You can use them, but they will appear as two items on the MS2 screen.

Re 3: ECoS I (second hand).
More expensive: ECoS II, Viessmann Commander, CS2?

Re 4: There are many lists. How do you define "Märklin compatible"?
There won't be many that support graphical display of the layout (see question 3).

Tom

Thank you, by marklin compatible I just mean if it can be used with marklin digital trains.

If you want the controller to display the layout: ECoS I and II, Viessmann Commander, CS2.

If you want the PC to display the layout: any controller with a PC interface, so add Tams MC, Intellibox, and any other controller that supports MM.

If you want mfx, then the list is very short: ECoS I and II, CS2. Tams MC for experts.

To clarify, with a computer, even an ms2 can show a layout?

Not "out of the box", but there are ways to add USB to the MS2 trackbox and use it for PC control. Not my area of expertise.
