Hi Andrew. That's one great old Lok! I got mine way back in 1965. I still have her and now I'm thinking about getting her converted to digital soon.

Anyway, the BR 01 was a heavy German passenger locomotive and luckily some have been preserved and are still used for special runs in Germany. You

can see her run on quite a few youtube videos. She pulled the passenger cars of that period. The old metal ones are still to be found on ebay and Märklin

has also reissued the metal ones and also made new prototype ones.

The old metal ones are;

4026 Baggage car

4022 2nd class passenger coach/4052 with interior details

4047 post office coach

4027 1st class passenger coach/4051 with interior details/4053 with tail lights (end of train car)

4064 sleeping coach

4024 Dining coach

Enjoy! Peter Cool

PS- you may wish to check out some old Märklin catalogues. You can find them on the forum here or online.

The class (Baureihe in German) is in fact 01.
Number 01 097 refers to the individual loco number.
The tinplate coaches are great but make sure they have interior fitted,in particular the older series and the Primex versions are not having an interior.
Bagagecars and post office cars are not having an interior at all.
The post office car 4047 is pretty rare by now.
Recently Marklin issued retro versions of these beautiful tinplate coaches and these are widely available on internet.
There is a 2nd class green coach with the letters Buffet on the side,i have not seen that before.
See also the versions for FS (Italian) and OBB (Austrian) railways which can be included in the German train.
There are also Belgian and French coaches but i would not include those in a typical German express train.
There is even a Danish tinplate coach in burgondy red.

See Marklin 00766:

2nd class coaches are green,1st class coaches are blue, the FS coach is grey, the OBB coach has very small lettering and no logo on the side.

Cheers,
Paul.
