Wonder if someone can help me identify where some signs that I've acquired should be used. I have three tall triangular signs with bearing the numbers 3, 5, and 7. Also three short upside down triangular signs also numbered 3, 5, and 7. I'm guessing that these are railroad rather than highway signs, but what do they signify ?Confused Confused Confused

Which colours?

Most likely those will pre-announce or start speed limits of 30, 50, 70 km/h respectively.

Thank you Tom, taken further the tall pointing up signs indicate a speed increase and the short signs pointing down indicate a speed decrease.

This website http://www.sh1.org/eisenbahn/index.htm, which I have found very reliable in the past, suggests that that the pointing-up and pointing-down signs have the same meaning.

See this page http://www.sh1.org/fotos/ks.htm and the comment attached to the picture which is four from the bottom.

Never heard of a railway that does it that way. I know the pattern that Robert’s post refers to. With that pattern you need rectangular signs to put the limit into effect.

Are your signs of different heights? Which colours do they have?

Tom The triangular signs are orange and from Viessmann 3650 Streckenschtider Sortiment 1. Also there are rectangular white signs with letters H, L and P. Also, two black and white checkerboard signs.

No, the linked page indicates that the shape has no meaning - it is just a matter of available space.

The signs with the horizontal bar at the bottom have a short pin (can be used between tracks) and the taller ones with the horizontal bar are used where space permits.

L for bell, P for air horn (put them before level crossings).
H marks the point at platforms where trains should stop.
The checkerboard is placed where a signal should be if that signal had to be placed at the other side.
F marks a telephone. See pictures 12 and 20 here:
