I installed interior lights into the steering cab and the 1st class waggon of my ICE 2 (Märklin 29791). Here are some pictures and explanations of this little modification:

In the steering cab, there is already a small circuit board which has solder pads for a capacitor. Therefore, I soldered a 470µF buffer electrolytical capacitor there. This capacitor buffers the head light of the steering cab:

Then, for the interior light LEDs, I used two 4.7kOhm resistors in parallel (total resitance 2.35kOhm)

At the end of the waggon, + and - are soldered to the coupler to provide the voltage to the 1st class waggon:

And this is, how it looks:

The interior light LEDs are buffered only by this single capacitor in the steering cab.

The total current consumption is below 50mA for both waggons together!

Hello Moritz!

Nice job with the capacitor and the 'current conduction couplers'. Woot

1 or 2 years ago I also inserted lights on my ICE2 (even Märklin saying that´s not possible)... I took a diferent way as you, inserting one pick-up shoe on each wagon, adapting the underframe to fit it...

Cheers,

Walter

You can't buy the copper contacts for the couplers anymore but you still can buy a complete coupler for the ICE2 coaches complete with copper contacts, with with you can replace the standard ICE2 couplers.

This is what I have done for my ICE2.
