What's wrong with this picture?
Why when I was a lad candy bars were 5 cents and I walked 5 miles to school, uphill, both ways.
Talk about feeling old. Cheers, Steve

when i was 15 i had a summer job doing roofing for a local contractor. hot weather, carrying two bundles of shingles at a time up the ladder all day. i saved my money and bought a brand new marklin train. it was a br216 with 4 matching coaches in cream/blue livery. when i run that train nowadays i think of the hard work it took to get it. last winter i asked a kid if he would shovel snow for me for which he would be well compensated for.....he looked at me as if i had two heads and walked away. i guess he didn't want a new train. THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE! mikey
I love the smell of smoke fluid in the morning .

We are victims of our own affluence. Can you blame today's kids? We would have done the same if we could have afforded it.

Hi Steve,
I try that on my grand kids, but they are getting wise to it, so I will have to try something else.
Maybe introduce snow and sleet into the story, which doesn't happen here.

And yes Mikey, I have the same experience when offering tasks.
Worked at a hardware store on school holiday, when young, and grew 2 inches in 2 months carrying bags of cement, and the usual other stuff.

regards
Kimball

I am pleased to say that Miss 15 was happy to come with me on the last holiday to do three dump trips, one trip hurling besser blocks at a hard fill dump site, and then shovel a load of soil we collected on the way back.. On the same holiday, she helped me make a 1.2m x 2.2m x .4m garden bed made from 50mm thick hardwood including moving the timber, sawing the timber and screwing it together with a socket set.. She said to her mother later that she had never worked so hard, but it was fun too..

Her reward - not enough to buy half a loco.. Blushing

Not all 15 year olds are lazy! It says more about their upbringing..

Using an Apple will make no difference to adding pictures, its the exact same process.

What you do need to do is reduce the size so that it will display directly in the thread and avoid others the chore of having to download to view it. I'm on my tablet right now and that's when it becomes a chore.

So sadly the thread means nothing to me until I can view the image Blushing

When I was a young lad, I worked outside school hours at a farm.
And I bred and sold tropical aquarium fish at home as well.
Bought a Kreidler moped for my money at age 16... and cigarettes ... and more aquariums so I could breed more fish.

Now my boys (13 and 14) are (according to Dutch legislation) not allowed to work on schooldays and sundays, only on saturdays, and the pay is a joke. My eldest son (14) earned his money with programming on jobs he find on the internet, my youngest get extra pocket money when he helps me in the garden and such.

So did I; but it was only 5 kilometres, not miles, and only uphill in one direction. BigGrin

Yes we do; but we cover them with blankets when we have visitors from Sweden.

We have no mountains.

When I was young, I delivered newspapers. Morning papers, afternoon papers, weekly papers, and to top it all of, flyers for the local bicycle store. I quit all that when I was 15 and started working in a store on Thursday nights (cleaning the store) and Saturdays (Filling and also cash register. Remember the old Sweda cash registers?)

When I was 16 I quit school and started working full time, was in charge of the dairy department in a local grocery store. Not being allowed to work Friday nights, I did the department paperwork in the upstairs lunchroom on those nights.

When I was 17, we left the Netherlands. Worked ever since. Also got my High School diploma and raised a family. Life is good. Smile
