Hi All

I've recently acquired a second-hand Turntable 7286. I would like to use it in my digitalized layout, so that I have acquired a new 7687 set, which includes the 7686 decoder. But while I'm reading the instructios of the 7286, ops !!, it says that for turntables made on or before year 2002, a modification should be made in order to adapt the electronics of both 7286 and 7686. For this purpose, I should send both to my dealer (and he sent them to Germany, I guess)

Fantastic. Anybody knows what type of modification needs to be made ? How can I know the year of birth of my 7286 ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

The serial number of the turntable maybe is the way to know the year
of construction.

Look under your turntable.
There must be a date stamp.
It is on my new (2004) TT written with dark blue ink.

Just a word of note, some people seem to have difficulty with this module. For me the module refused to work right out of the box.

After many hours of searching and looking at the circuit board I noticed that the sockets which are soldered to the circuit board seem to be touching the circuit board. There is a circuit which runs underneath the sockets which is not suppose to touch the sockets. I ended up putting a thin piece of plastic between the sockets and the circuit board. This solved my problem and the module worked for me.

I also remember seeing some notes and pictures on how the modification is done on the older turntables. I will check when I get home to see if I still have a copy on my computer.

These turntables are never right, but they look so cool. I've been through 2 where the factory wiring diagram was incorrect and I spent hours wondering why the damn things wouldn't work. The worse part was that the wiring was different on each turntable! My current one also has a contact problem, the deck works and so does the tracks leading into the table, but the 2" perimeter deck tracks don't get power. Another weekend project I guess. Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't have experience with the problem you mentioned John, but I do have some experience with the turntable decoders. It does indeed happen quite often these decoders don't work. Märklin will fix the problem (guarantee) but it's quite anoying though...

Thanks all

I think it will be better to send the TT to my dealer and see what can he do with it.

In any case, I'd like to see your pictures on this, Tim. [:p] Thanks

Hi all

Thanks Tim. My TT does not include any date, so I'm afraid it is a model prior to 2002 [:(] I'll sent it to my dealer.

Thank you very much in any case

Gentlemen

I have a 7286 purchased last year. Included was the 7687 digital conversion kit. The bottom of my turntable is stamped 0689 so I assume it was manufactured in June of 1998. The instruction book included is also dated 0698. It does not state any modification necessary to convert to digital operation. Am I missing something here? Don't want to ruin the equipment. It is not installed as yet. Help!

If memory serves me right the following photo shows what the underside of the carriage should look like if it was updated for digital operation.

UserPostedImage

If the underside looks like the following picture then most likely the unit needs to be sent in for conversion.

I can not take credit for the pictures as the pictures originally came from a windigipet workshop document. The original intent of the document was to allow a fleishmann turntable to be connected to the 7687 digital module.

There was another document I found once on the internet which described the conversion of the marklin model but I can not find it anymore and I did not save a copy of it.

I also confirmed the pictures with my turntable and the modification is the same process. The only difference in mine was the location of the diodes. Diodes used were 1N4002 in case anyone was wondering.

Maxi, I also have a Fleischmann version of the TT. Can you point me to that information to put it to work with the 7686?

Best regards,

Luis

The document can be found here in German (Workshop #15)
http://www.windigipet.de/download4.html

If one were to become a member (free of charge) then the document can be found in english also. The section quoted above is no longer being maintained, there is more information in the forum section of the website.
