I just bought a 60212 in ebay. I hope it arrived in the following 10 days.
I would like to connect it as second controller in my 60214.

Please could you help me?. In the diagram from the manual of 60214 there is a item named connect 60121. But this item seems no to be in the market.

How can I connect a Marklin CS1 to my Marklin 60214? Maybe by the LAN connector through my Internet Router?

Thank you. Ruben

I am amazing. I thought tat MS2 60653 could not be connected direct to the front porst for MS. I thought that that ports were only for 60652.

Thank you. I hope the 60212 arrived soon and then I will try with this squematics.

The connection procedure is defined in the CS2's manual, which you will need to refer to.

The 'architektur' document shows what connections are made, but not how to configure them.

Plus, I hope you verified that your 60212 has the v2.0 update before you purchased it. The 60212 must be at software version 2.0.3 or 2.0.4 for the connection to the CS2 to work, and for those software versions, the 60212 must also have had the v2.0 hardware update applied.

Hi Dave,

Can I seek confirmation on the hardware part of this comment.

Yes the later CS1(60212) V2 software may be a pre-req for CS2(60213//5) communication but the ethernet hardware on the CS1 was operational from V1 (original GA ship)
The V2 hardware provided - Sniffer,S88,Booster(6015/7) capabilities by way of an additional plugin module, and had nothing to do with Ethernet hardware.

I am running on memory here , but I am pretty sure I updated my CS1 to V2 software before I sent it to Maerklin for its V2 hardware update.
And of course it was a long time after that , that the CS2 was announced AND even later that its software version was able to support the CS1 (via ethernet in lieu of the originally advanced-marketed 60121 that never saw the light of day).

Note: Confusion - was also introduced with the "build level" of the CS1 main "system" board, in that the original version had the RJ45 connector orientated in an unergonomic way (i.e. illogical because you needed a thin blade, like a jewelers screw drive to release the locking catch). later builds of the board had the connector orrientated the "correct" (more logical way). This is NOT to be associated with the V2 hardware upgrade associated with the Sniffer/S88/Booster function of the CS1 as most CS1s were returned from Maerklin after their update WITHOUT a concurrent update of the system board.

Hello and thank you to all.

The seller of the 60212 I have bought said:

MÄRKLIN

Central Station Art.Nr. 60212 mit Update + 60 VA Trafo Art.Nr. 60052
mit Karton, allen Papieren und Kabeln!

unbenutzt und OVP!

I Have the manual of 60214 but there is nothing explained about how to connect the 60212. It has a diagram but in that diagram cames a item named connect 60121. This item is not in stock.

The diagram that you gave me shows that the connection may be by ethernet connection.

I don't think that the v2 software could be applied without first having the v2 hardware (but I could be wrong).

The presence of the v2 update is usually identified by way of a '2.0' red sticker affixed to the bottom of the 60212.

To connect the CS1 (60212) with CS2 (60213/60214/60215) the CS1 (60212) must have the Hardware-Update, which Marklin built into the CS1 for the Customer's back in about 2006-2007.
The CS1 must also have Software-version 2.0.3 or higher (After the Hardware-Update supplied by Marklin the CS1 was returned with Software-version 2.0.3, when i got mine back again)
If the CS1 have label on the bottom side which show "v2.0" the CS1 has been Updated with the Hardware by Marklin

You dont need the Marklin 60121 Unit.

The connection between CS1 and CS2 can be build with "straight" Network-cables.

On Marklin's Website :

Software und Service zu Märklin Systems

you will find the Software-version 2.0.4 for the CS 1 (60212), which is the Last Software-Update Marklin made for the CS 1 (60212)

Connect your CS1 and CS2 with network-cables as shown in "Eksempel 2" or "Eksempel 3" (use "straight" network-cables).

(Netgear Router is only used as an example here, you can use your own Router.)

Marklin CS1 to CS2 Connection

Setup the IP-Address for the CS2 (use DHCP)
Setup the IP-Address for the CS1 (use DHCP, if any problems with DHCP set it manually)

When you are finished with connecting the CS1 and CS2 with Network-cables, you should Install the Software-Update Version 2.0.4 for CS 1
with the Help of the Built-in Web-Interface for the CS 1.

Enter this line in your Browser (Internet Explorer / Firefox or whatever browser you are using :

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is replaced with the IP-Address that was assigned to the CS1) and press enter

More help can be found in the Userguide for the CS1.

Please also remember that the CS 2 must be updated to minimum Software-version 1.3.0 or higher for this to work.
(the latest Update for the CS2 is Software-version : 2.0.1) which you can download from the Marklin Website or
perform an Update straight from your CS2 when it is connected to the Internet over your Router.

Also Remember that if you choose to install the ESU Software-Update 3.0.0 on your CS1 you "cant" make a Network-connection with the CS2
after the ESU-Update has been installed on your CS1.

Thank you Frank. You made an amazing tutorial.

Kind regards

Today 20/08/2012 the CS 60212 arrived. I have connected the 60212 to the 60214 and works all right as second controller.

I used a UTP CAT-5 crossed wire to connect directly the CS1 to the CS2. The settings are as shown in the photos.
