The insider model in the US is priced at $949.98 according to my just arrived mailing. What is the price in Germany or other countries? Does the dealer make money on the model or is this the cost price from Marklin. Just curious.

There are a few dealers in the USA that have lower prices on their trains.
Check out AJCkids, he seems to have the lowest prices.
Also some dealers offer a discount to ETE members both here in the USA and in Germany

Would suggest to keep your desire under control for a couple of months and you are likely to find it on internet at much reduced prices.
Note that shops associated to Maerklin have the habit to charge the socalled factory suggested prices, these are gross prices without any discount.
The above also applies to all other M models.
I also found that many times prices from private sellers in Germany are lower than prices from shops in Holland.
It pays to shop around i would say.

I received a quote from a dealer in Germany for the 403. They charge 440 euros with out VAT plus shipping. That's about $582.00 plus $53.00. That's a big savings from $949.98.
