But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Had a great sunny week in beautiful Vienna, hotel Regina, close to the centre.
Saw all the must sees, including the Schonbrunn imperial residence.
Did not see any trainshops, which is good, budget was under pressure already.
Upon return to Schiphol Amsterdam airport it was raining (of course) and the socalled fast train to Rotterdam was some 20 minutes late, reason not given.
Welcome home!

Summertime sadness:

Cheers,

Paul

Heading up to the Northern hemisphere at the end of the month for a long planned visit - including a cruise on the Danube, some time in Croatia, then to Greece.

Part of the Greece trip includes a few days on Crete, which will be very special as I have Great Uncle buried in the Suda Bay Commonwealth War Cemetery.

We will be away for about 6 weeks in total Cool

The cruise includes time in Prague, Germany, Vienna and then finally Budapest, so will have to make some time for trains along the way BigGrin

We were originally planning to go to Turkey but sadly that had to be cancelled. I have been to Turkey (a long time ago - 1989) and was looking forward to visiting Gallipoli - but it was not to be Sad

Cheers

We had our main holiday this year in June. We spent a week in UK visiting our kids and then went on to a lovely resort in Mallorca for some chilling out time by the pool and on the beach.

We will spend most of the summer here at home where, of course, there will be plenty of beach and pool time as well, but unfortunately there is also work...

In a couple of weeks time we are going to spend a few days in Vilamoura in the Portuguese Algarve. It's about a four hour drive from here and we regularly spend time there in preference to the Spanish Costa del Sol which is too commercialised, although unfortunately the Algarve is getting there too now.

We're planning a trip in October to celebrate our 35th Anniversary, but still looking at destinations...

Glen,i visited the Souda Bay cemetery on Crete a long time ago,a well kept place in bright Greek sunshine, with beautiful flowers everywhere.
The contrast between the beautiful landscape and the sadness of the graves is dramatic.
I also visited the German cemetery at Maleme, again a lot of young chaps killed for what purpose?

Please enjoy Vienna to the fullest,it is a truly magical place!

Yes, the numbers killed and injured on both sides in the Battle of Crete was horrific. Thanks for the tip on the location of the German cemetery.

I'm am looking forward to a brief but no doubt busy visit to Vienna Drool

Vienna: try and visit the Stephans Dom (cathedral) and see the inside, free admission.
One tower was completed, the other was shortcut because the Gothic era came to an end, meaning two towers were out of fashion.
Compare with the magnificent Dom at Cologne, which has two towers.
Also try and visit the Hofburg in the centre, having an unbelievable collection of silverware/chinaware from the former emperess Elisabeth ("Sisi").
Finally, try and visit the Schonbrunn palace outside the city, some 40 out of 1,400 rooms are accessable to the public, fully furnished,it will make you breathless.
There is a two peak Gothic church in Vienna called the Votiv church, only built around 1865,but looking much older, inside various wallplaquettes for fallen soldiers in WW1 and WW2.
And try and enjoy a Wiener Schnitzel, tin cut vealmeat with breadcrumb skin,Vienna has the best!

Actually we had been considering a holiday in Greece this year as we have not been back since our honeymoon in 1981. We were put off by the reports in the media of immigrants arriving by the boat load on the beaches among the tourists, so we switched our plans. I'm sure the reports were more alarming than was justified.

We might do Greece next year. I would love to visit again the Island of Poros where we had our honeymoon!

There is a big problem with the immigrants but in specific islands. The most islands are faraway from all these.
I hope my country will be better for you and for Greeks the next year.

I'm being very hedonistic this year!Flapper

Already spent a week with good friends in Germany during Toy Fair time.

Spent 2-1/2 weeks in May in Israel with a side trip to Rome.

Spent 10 days over Independence holiday at my country house July 4th.

Leaving on a cruise to Alaska with good friends for two weeks on August 9.

Motorcycle trip for a week Sept 21, attending Street Vibrations rally, among other travels.

Four days hunting in Buffalo Wyo. first week of October. Hopefully obtaining my first Whitetail deer.

Not done with October! Leaving the 16th for three week trip to Europe, ending up in England for the UK autumn meet of Märklin lovers.

December: Las Vegas for a week of total hedonism.

I couldn't squeeze in Nov 21 to see my favorite (American) football team play in Mexico City. Bummer.

I know it's hard to believe, but I have a job. It seriously gets in the way!LOL

Cutting back next year, but then of course the Treff.BigGrin

Spent a year in NZ in 1982 and found real poverty there, the locals driving very old English cars, and clothes and shoes being absolutely substandard.
I hope it has changed for the better by now.
Also was in a boat on Lape Taupo, beautiful indeed.
Have fun!

Well I seem to be the odd one out here.

When younger and working hard, I did enjoy the break, and looked forward to it once or twice a year, but never traveled outside Australia.
And after the daughters left home, I found I didn't enjoy holidays away particularly, because I can't figure out what to do with the time away from familiar things.
And I don't like spending money in that fashion, so take few as a result.

But I can say that the last two years my wife and I visited our youngest daughter in Denmark mid-winter, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We also headed up into far north Norway, and appreciated the stark contrasts with the climate and people back in Australia.
Winter in Europe is really a splendid time to travel without the crowds, and presumably the expense.

regards
Kimball

The Heron (YW International Heron Class) Wub is commonly sailed by two adults in UK and Australia.

The national championships often feature husband/wife crew. Admittedly I was a "young adult" here in 1970 BigGrin :
