Please could some one give me an approximate value to a train set that I have had for 40 years.
The original box disintergrated but the original polystyrine survived.
I would like to sell this set.train set.jpg
The locomotive has lost some parts, the cars are in good condition.
I believe the transformer is working

Hi Ed

Welcome to the forumThumpUp

In the UK, the set you have in the condition described is probably worth around £10-20.

It would be worth more with a full box and the loco in one piece.

The transformer is only a 10va so only of use on a little layout like the one you have, or for a small circuit in a larger layout.

Hi Ed,

Sorry to confirm but Mike and Steven are both correct.

It's a very common basic starter set from that era. The cost of the parts and work required to repair the loco are probably close to what the set is actually worth.

The Loco may be useful to someone for parts, the track and coaches may enable someone to expand their layout a little, the controller is low-rated as mentioned but still useful for controlling lighting etc.

You could try listing it in your local rag, as-is for parts, people are always after a bargain but it's not a retirement fund I'm afraid.

Best

Steve

How it was back in the day, these images from the 1964 and 1976 catalogues.. (your set probably dates to the early 70's because the Loco changed slightly to the larger smoke-stack around 1972 as shown)
