My beloved Wurttemberg K that runs very smoothly has stopped making sound. I hear occasional pops and cracks but that is all. I assume that it is either
the sound decoder or a bad speaker. This is a fairly old version of the K so I'm guessing that parts are no longer available. Does anyone know if this would be a ESU decoder
or if parts from the current crop of K's would fit?

Thanks in advance,

Gary

Hi, Gary,

it must be an ESU decoder. An old one made for a speaker impedance in the 50 through 100 ohms range.
New decoders (ESU and Märklin) use speakers with 4 through 8 ohms.

And those ESU speakers were notorious for going open circuit, because of the fine wire used in them. I suspect this is what has happened to yours.

It was a relatively common occurrence to have a brand new loco arrive with no sound, and the speaker needed replacing.
