I am sure this question has been raised before but why do M not fit smoke generators as standard factory fitted items to relevant loks?. If a smoke generator retails at 25euros so costs about 10 without packaging, manuals etc it is surely not for cost reasons on a 400euro lok when fitting as part of the build process would cost almost nothing. I am sure most people would like smoke as well as sound etc. I have noticed as I get older the eyesight is failing and the fudgy fingers get fudgier yet the loks get finer with small detailed parts added. Whilst I admire the skills of many people on here fitting decoders, weathering etc etc I for one want to take a lok from the box run it and never have to take the body from the chassis at least not for a couple of years. The matter is not helped in the UK with no helpful service dealers as there used to be "in the old days". Why has the spell check not underlined fudgier? is it really a word?

Hi!

The folks here can speculate only.

Why not write to Märklin and ask them?

One reason against pre-installed smoke generators: it will always be on in analogue operation - and some people may not like that.
Some people don't like those smoke generators at all and are not willing to pay € 10 or € 20 to get a loco with something they don't want. Same issue about sound decoders and even non-sound decoders.

You can buy Seuthe smoke generators without booklet and maybe save a few bucks. And if you buy loco and smoke generator from the same dealer, the friendly dealer may install it for you.

I think Märklin made some models where the smoke generator was included with the loco, but not installed.
I think with the bay S 2/6 they even installed it. So maybe they are fulfilling your wish at least with some models.
Regards
Tom

Take the points you make but then begin to wonder how much of my 400euro lok is going towards the wonderful world of operation which may be wonderful if you have CS2 and are interested in that aspect (personally not) but if I adored the lok would still pay the 400 and be perfectly happy to pay 415 inc smoke. Interesting comment about asking the dealer to help does any one have experience of this with the likes of MSL and Lokshop?

I am currently awaiting shipment of my new BR 01 39007 which comes with the smoke generator already installed.

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Yes - for most loks the installation is very easy. It is kind of odd that most come without smoke generators, some include them and on some they are already installed. I usually install them in all of my loks, but I rarely use them.

BTW that BR95.0 is a nice looking lok Peter - I might need to consider becoming an Insider again!
