Hello Everyone,

Yesterday on a exhibition my girlfriend bought this coach:

UserPostedImage

It s a marklin 4040 but on one side it has a shield. Is this a creation from a previous owner (altough it looks really well done) or a marklin made one? Does anyone have a faint idea if it s a marklin product if it s actually worth something? Not that I m planning on selling it, but it s always nice to know!
Who can help me out?

Kristof

Hi Kristof,

both, the car and the shield are Märklin - products. The shield comes from the decals which were delivered with the Swiss-loco 3050.

Hello all,
I recently bought 9 4040 tin plate personal wagons. Now I want to fix passenger seats inside the wagon as the wagon is quite empty. Could you share with me a picture of the interiors and exteriors of the actual passenger car that was operational (hope this is not a fictiious model)?
Regards
Madhu

I think the 4040 was not based on an actual prototype.
They have no interior but i think that adds to their charm, old fashioned Marklin tinplate.
I would leave them as they are.

For two axle cars with interior may i suggest you look for the socalled Donnerbuschen (=Thunderbarrels) which were used in large numbers on German regional railways.
Most of these have a full interior fitted (but not the bagagecars!).
Note these cars are made of plastic, with fine detail.

Have more than you show, speak less than you know (Shakespeare).

Funny to see that Brawa made the same car - just in 1:87 and therefore much longer:

I'd expect wooden interior with wooden seats.

Tom

Hi Madhu,

The car is a impressionist model of this prototype: http://www.brawa.de/uplo...160-personenwagen-db.jpg (Brawa model) . The interior was very simple. Wooden seat-benches.

Edit Tom was three minutes faster.

Regards

Markus

They might have taken some liberties in the design but even if loosely based on a real wagon I am sure something very similar will exist, I have seen some in Austria that weren't too different. Here I include the photo of a German one that is not far from it, A lot of the Marklin and other brands were shortened and did not match the proper scale. Timber seats are likely to be what those wagons had originally.small wagon.jpg

Thank you all for the reply!! So I would consider creating wooden seats as shown below. I will do a proof of concept, hear your feedback and then proceed:)
