Hi all,
Found an old Marklin HO 7214 7215 7216 Signal Horn Set without instructions. I realise the horn was designed to be soldered into a locomotive but is there a way to just hook up the components to a transformer to hear what it sounds like? Not intending to use it but just interested to hear it in operation.

Thanks, Maurice.

Hi Maurice,

I attach the manual for the horn and the signal-button. The last one describes the hole system. The system works with high-frequency modulation so you need at least 7215, a transformer and a horn.
The sound is not impressing. The noise is like a low beeper when a PC boots. Don't be disappointed.

This picture shows a 3050 with the horn installed:

Hi everyone - in the hope this thread about the old 60s marklin signal horn system is still alive, can anyone throw some light on the differences between the original 7213 horn, and the seemingly later 7214?
I can see the physical difference - the 7213 seems to be a sealed unit with an open horn end, whilst the 7214 is a small hearing aid type unit clipped into a sealed end plastic horn (I presume the hearing aid type unit was a bought in part for marklin ?)
Also any idea what the electronic component on the feed wire is? - looks like a capacitor, but what microfarad and volts? - the parts just say. 2/70 VALVO +27
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks
Charles

Hi Charles,

The 7213 is newer version, 7214 is the first version, which was only delivered one year. The 7213 is louder than the 7214. The 7214 has a very low volume. I don't know the electronic values.

Hi Markus

Thanks for that very quick reply and the information- duly noted, but it does beg the question as to why the later type horn has the earlier number?

Regards
Charles

Hi Charles,

The other numbers were already used. I'm sure Märklin didn't want to replace the part after one year. But they had to much complaints about the weak sound. So they had to use number before 7214. #7215 is the sound device with the red knob.

Regards

Markus
