Hello folks,

Just received some new passenger cars, purchased from ebay, and a person that i have purchased from before recently. Two of the carriages are describe as HO Minex 4401. The wheel base is 18 mm however the body is much larger, almost 1/3 to half as big as my normal HO bodies. HO 30 size comes to mind. Any ideas?

Kind regards

Ken

Minex is 1:45 scale but runs on normal H0 track. Minex was in the Marklin catalog from 1970 to 1972.

Here are the Minex pages from the 1971 catalog.

Thankyou all for the quick response, as always. Now what to do with these two passenger cars? I think my other half will have something to say if i go down another scale of raiway build. Kind regards Ken.

Didn't you know? If you don't have the engine they can look nice on their own on a book shelve.

So what if I posted similar info . Is there some law to say I cant. What I said was it is called on30 as well as o narrow gauge. There are lots of different post on the Forum where several people give answers to the same question. From now on I will be watching every post you answer a question to and make sure no one answered it before you because if they have I will pull you up on it.

There is no law, no. However, suggesting that you intend to stalk a moderators posts is concerning however and perhaps you should reach out to the member you directed this to with an apology.

To summarize things:
The scale is 0 in Europe, O in North America, and o in ireland.
The gauge is 0e in Europe, Oe or On30 in North America, and on30 in ireland.

There are other names for the same gauge.

Minex was meant to run on Märklin H0 tracks, but real 0e tracks will look nicer (larger sleepers with larger gaps).

There also is H0n30 - this is H0 scale narrow gauge suitable for N gauge rails. So Minex is not H0n30.

I hope no moderator takes offence by this summary.
Regards
Tom

Then there's the issue of 0 Scale being 1:43, 1:45, or 1:48 depending on where you live, the manufacturer, the alignment of the planets, etc.

Then there is the issue of the scale being wrong regardless of the number chosen like Ma making the same wagon with different lengths. The early O gauge Fleischmann comes to mind too with an O gauge E18 being the same length as an HO E18.

Regardless of scale, these Minex trains are quite nice - several friends in the Marklin Club I belong to have them.

A forum member also had the two Minex starter sets for sale about 5 or 6 weeks ago.

Hi,

Just as a side note: The insulation - track delivered with the MINEX home-signal is the last M-track which can be bought new from Märklin in 2016: http://www.maerklinshop....e/15497/trenngleisstueck

Minex is 1:45, at least nominally. Accessories for 0/0e gauge could be in a slightly different scale
