Hello, Everyone:

I just bought two X pieces at 24.3 and 48.6 degree angles in order to have the train turn around and go the other way but I can't use either of them because the tracks do not join. Angry

When I try to have one side join the other from two turnouts placed opposite from each other, as in the attached diagram (taken from an M track starter box from maybe 40 years ago with R0 curves) I get two parallel tracks. Sad

The example in question is the top left layout, 170 x 65 cm. My layout is with C track, R1 radius - a bit wider and a bit higher since I am using R1 curves.

Any help would be appreciated. ThumpUp

Your problem is not very clear. Not even after looking at the pdf...
What are "X pieces" ?

The pdf shows exactly 2 parallel tracks, so if you are building that example, then it should not be strange to end up with exactly that. :-)
The points used in the pdf are of the 51xx type, those use R1 30º turns, with NO equivalent existing for C-track. (old Alpha track uses this geometry, though...)

If you use larger curves, the distances must be adjusted with additional pieces of straights, and the dimensions of the layout will be considerably bigger, for diagonals laid at the same angles. But as your C-points will put the diagonal in 24,3º, the layout will again be much longer!

You could try to get hold of other trackplanning books with "better" examples, or try it out on a computer; SCARM is free, and you can even use the WinTrack demo version (no cost) to check out these kind of things.

Hi, HX:

X pieces are the cross over pieces of track one uses for having two lines of track intersect each other.

Marklin calls these pieces "crossings" and have cat no. 24640 and 246749.

Since my width is larger than in the example, I thought it would be possible to have the top track reach the bottom track via the turnouts at the top right and the bottom left so that by having two sets and one of these crossings in the middle, I would be able to have the train turn around and go in the opposite direction.

If this is still not clear, I will try to make a sketch to show what I mean.

Thanks.

am pretty sure that the problem lays with you trying to place C track pieces on an M track PLan??

Hello, Everyone:

Please see in attached manual the first drawing at page 4 - electrical flow - that is what I am trying to achieve with the trains.

Thank you.

Hi

If you use 24611's & 24612's on the end of each leg of the 24649, then you will get the geometry you're looking for. How long you make each of the four 'legs' will depend on your radius at each end.

The matching turnouts for the 24640, would be the slim turnouts, 24711 & 24712. (Don't forget the little spacer tracks for these turnouts, 24071). You will need lots of space to get something similar to the pic you mentioned using these slim turnouts.

(Sorry not able to post a pic.)

Hope that helps.

Thank you, everyone for your time and effort ! BigGrin

From what I see, Hoffman has the oval I am looking for ThumpUp

I can't read well the numbers around the crossing. Is it possible to have a list of the tracks used?

Is the number at the bottom the length? 2 m 603 mm?Scared

What does the orange little circle mean?
