Returning to MRR after a twenty year break there is something new to me -sound.

All my adult life I have had a high frequency deafness. I am not alone many famous people have the same -Bill Clinton is one I recall. It is not true that my frequency cut off corresponds to the frequency of my wife's voice - I can hear her perfectly well - sometimes! But for years I never heard a mobile phone - the Nokia tune somehow passed me by and I rely on a little vibration in my trouser pocket to tell me someone wants me.

I have hearing aids - I have tried quite a few over the years - but after a while they get left in the box, leaving me happy and contented in own quiet world. Who needs most of the beeps and buzzes of modern life and definitely why do you need to hear yourself weeing?

So with a new lok with a few sound functions they are a bit of a loss on me. My wife will sit in the man room to catch up with her emails and sits and mimics the noises that are coming from the train layout none of which I have heard.

So this morning whilst everyone was out I dusted down the hearing aids - replaced the batteries and sat in sheer wonderment at the noises emanating from my new lok. I am also hearing for the first time the clicking noise this keyboard makes - its annoying - but I also I heard the doorbell for a change and the postman had a little parcel for me.

I have to simply say thank you for sharing that instead of me just clicking the thank button.
Both moving and inspiring and I wish you well in both the wonderful world of sound punctuated by the bliss of silence.
Enjoying the hobby anyway you can is indeed a bonus.

Peace,
Mark

Perhaps the best part of it all is that MMR has given you the desire to dust off the hearing aids so you can hear not only the trains but indeed, and more importantly, all the wonderful sounds of nature most of us take for granted.

Please don't put the hearing aids back in the box, even if you were to get tired of MMR. BigGrin

Best regards.
