As one of the many on this forum I fall into the category of taking my Marklin kit of twenty five years old out of the loft now the kids have flown and I have time on my hands!

One of my happiest memories was shunting with two "little" loks equipped with telex couplers a 3665 and a 3696. However since these were the most popular they are the most battered, abused and worn of my kit although they both function. My first new purchase on return was a little kof 36342 of which I am most delighted and to me the "newer" telex kit is very good but the lok does pick up on every little imperfection on my track.

Now I suspect that chunky telex couplers make the purists shudder but the if a purist were to look over my shoulder at my operation they would probably have a seizure.

Now then I observe that telex equipped loks are getting rarer in the current and proposed line-up. Are they a thing of the past? Would any one care to suggest a currently available, proposed or recent telex equipped model that may fit my predilection. Any era, any power any configuration.

It is quite funny that my now grown up kids try not to show much interest in my resurrection of their childhood - things have moved on in their world!. However if one of them pops into the man room whilst operations are on they immediately remember the digital lok code of 25 years ago - "number 55 still pulling the Rheingold father"

I just bought two Greek ladies with telex front and rear.. Still available from the dealer I suspect..

Before that (okay a couple of years) was the Max Bogl.. Also with telex front and rear..

Telex is good..

Hi,

Like you I have a number of loks with Telex. Most of them are with the new one:
-BR 50 Kabinetender (from 29640 set)
-BR 58 Insider (37589)
-Kof III (26340)
- T16 KPEV (37170)

I have also added the Telex to other locomotives:
- BR 24
- BR 78
- BR 18

While I like them, it seems that the quality is not constant:
- some are working "perfekt"
- some are uncouppling because of minor track angles
- some, when actuated do not return to the locking point unless a brutal coupling makes the locking pin go down.

Problems are mostly on the Telex purchased as spares but can be solved
In all my cases they are driven by a MSD decoder with the "Telex soft" setting

Cheers

Jean

I purchased new last year a model 37655 as a shunter, specifically because it had Telex couplers both front and rear. Its a BR 60. Not sure of it's availability now however so this information might well be out of date
