Is Märklin the only manufacturer/seller of 3 rail, digital locomotives that run on C-track?

I should have added also H0...

So far I've failed to find any mention on the sites for the above companies, anything that specifically mentions the use of a middle rail pickup.

Without going to the relevant sites to find you a page it will refer to;

Wechselstrom
AC
or a symbol

in the Loco listings.
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

All the companies I have mentioned have made models for the three-rail Märklin H0 systen in the past few years. The last Trix model is from 2013, the last PCM model is a bit older, I'm not sure about Kato - the others should have current H0 models.

Kato made ETA 176, the "Flying Hamburger" (which Märklin never made in H0) and the "Bauart Hamburg" (which Märklin only made in shortened versions).

I'll be away from keyboard for 10+ hours and don't have time now to go into details.

For MTH, "Proto-Sound 3E+" means three-rail.
They understand Märklin Motorola 1 and 2, as well as DCC from the Märklin CS2.
Cheers,

They won't mention a pickup directly, and probably not even 3-rail. Anything that is listed at AC will be for Marklin 3-rail though.

Maybe this will help.

For Brawa locomotives click on each type under diesel, electric, steam and railcar and you will see that each of the locomotives is available under four catalogue numbers. Those four correspond to DC, DC digital (DCC), AC digital, and AC digital with sound.

http://www.brawa.de/en/p...ucts/h0/locomotives.html

For Piko locomotives you will see that there are separate menu selections for classic AC, Expert AC and Hobby AC, as well as the equivalent DC options.

http://www.piko-shop.de/...id=22&vw_name=detail

For Roco first select the type (Steam, Electric, etc; and then, for each type, go to the higher catalogue numbers, where you will find the AC versions. You can also filter for "AC Digital" or AC analogue" for each type under "control".

http://www.roco.cc/en/pr...002001_602/products.html

Using similar techniques you can find AC models for Fleischmann, Hornby International (Rivarossi, Jouef, Lima and Electrotren) and other brands

The only ones that Trix make that are suitable for marklin AC are all from their 'Fine Art' range, and they are very expensive hand made items.

Items from the Trix Express range are 3 rail, but not AC. They also have very coarse wheel flanges and horrible looking couplings. However the current wagon offerings in the catalogue have NEM coupler pockets so 'proper' couplings can be fitted, and they also list both the DC 2 rail and AC three rail wheels.

Trix 2 rail wagons will run on Marklin track, although some people find that they run better if the wheels are replaced with 3 rail wheels. Also note that sometimes Marklin and Trix have identical wagons in their catalogues (sometimes at different times) but with different road numbers, e.g. the Swedish ore wagon sets in this years New Items. Both catalogues will tell you that the road numbers are different these days, but go back 10-15 years and only the Trix catalogue showed they were different numbers.
