Analysis of a collision near Amsterdam on 21 April 2012.
A local train (Sprinter) ignored a red signal, causing a frontal collision with an Intercity.
The section in question was getting maintenance, causing trains of opposite directions to use the same track.
The section did not have automatic warning systems,in fact both trains received signal that 60 km/h was allowed!
The driver of the intercity was guided by a senior mentor in the cabin.

Have more than you show, speak less than you know (Shakespeare).
