I do not know if I am on the good place, but I would like to announce you something that I saw quite a lot of time in videos: the very fast speed of the steam locos, even excessively fast.

I saw locos which run about 160-180 km / hour It is crazy and I give up the video

I don't like this speed but I understand ...some people like the excessive speed and I respect the choice of this people ...but personally it will not arrive to on my layout

I totally agree, Wolf. It pains me to see trains running at breakneck speed, especially on small layouts!

I like to see goods trains crawling along at walking pace, and passenger trains at a slightly faster speed but still fairly slow. Even modern passenger trains often go quite slowly through station areas and around sharp curves.

To be able to achieve the speeds I like I am progressively upgrading all my delta and older-generatiion digital locos to newer speed-regulated decoders and, where possible, to 5 pole motors.

Apart from that, as Tom suggests, you can appreciate their details better when they pass slowly past your eyes!

The ideal speed limit of the steam locomotives depends.
Also focus in difference era.
Era 1:15-90km/h
Era 2:Up to 110 km/h
Era 3-4:Up to 140 km/h

Freight traffic do have lower speed,while express do have higher speed.

It worth noting that German, and probably other continental countries, imposed a maximum speed limit for each class and this would be displayed on the information panel on the side of the cab. In France there was for most of the steam era a blanket steam limit of 120 kph (75 mph) enforced by recordable speedometers. This led do the development of locomotives which could maintain a constant speed both up and down hill.

A useful rule if like me you still think in imperial units is that in HO one foot per second or perhaps more realistically ten feet in ten seconds is equal to a scale sixty miles per hour. When it comes to running our models we should also remember that trains acceleration is considerably slower than that of motor vehicles and of course running slower is a good way of making our layouts appear larger.
