I was just going through a couple of websites and I noticed that Maerklin Holland has released some nice container cars that would look good behind some of my assorted international cargo locomotives. The model numbers are 47051.001 through 47051.004. The cars are registered with Railion NL and have containers of Samskip, P & O Ferrymasters and Van den Bosch (2).

I decided to grab the first three. Now I just have to figure out if these cars would go best with:

a) DB 185
b) TXL Taurus
c) SBB Cargo 189
d) BLS Cargo 485/486
e) Crossrail 185
f) SBB 474/482/484/420/620
g) Nordcargo 189
h) R4C 185
The list goes on…

Any suggestions? I am leaning towards the Roco SBB Cargo International 189.

Regards

Mike C

I already have these container wagons, and they are very nice indeed.

My choice of motive power, though, is the Märklin 39862 loco "Linked by Rail, Rotterdam - Poznan".

The prototype of this loco was on display in Goppingen station during the Märklin Days this year, and the graphics on the side are stunning. See photo below.

And we saw the model under construction in the factory during the factory tour, where the printing was being done using Märklin's latest print technology (also stunning).

I love the co-ordination of exhibits at the Märklin Days - a lot of hard work goes into the organisation of the weekend. And that's why so many of us travel there from all over the world!

Anyway, to me that loco with the new Dutch container wagons seems like an excellent modern-era train.

That is a nice locomotive, but it runs between Holland and Poland and my theme is Swiss rails and I was mentioning those locomotives that might be found pulling such a train between Holland and Italy.

For Germany/Swiss you can add Re 421.

Maybe add "Class 66" to your list, at least for Germany.

I don't know if Austrian locos fit in (ÖBB, Wiener Lokalbahn WLC, Cargoserv) - I've seen them all in Germany.
SNCB class 28/29 might do, too, but I don't know how far south they go.

Tom
