Hi everyone!

As I do some "curating" of my collection these days, I've been thinking a lot about my old analogue classics. I adore them, but reality is I would run them much more (and in some cases at all) if they were digital. I don't care enough nor have budget enough to convert everything; however the new crop of reissue locomotives really has me thinking: maybe I sell mine and upgrade to their new counterparts as Marklin releases these remakes?

Yes it would often cost me a bit more, but thats ok. I feel bad converting originals that won't see a ton of track time. In comparison my factory digital 36159 croc sees a LOT of miles when I'm running.

So the question for those who have purchased: how do you guys like your reissue locos? And how do they compare to the originals? Are there any quality cuts in comparison, or things you don't like?

Also, a list. I've seen the following around as remakes, am I missing anything?

3005
3015 (in 31100 set)
3019 (in 31100 set)
3021
3030
3047
3048

Thanks!

Hi,

I have the 30301 as well as the 30430 (Rc). The 30301 is actually an improved version of the original in my opinion. In digital mode, it runs very well, and even in analogue mode, the five-pole DCM motor is better than the old three-pole small flat collector motor of the 3030. My German Märklin dealer told me back in 2013 that he had sold a lot of 30301s but hadn't had a single complaint from customers. My 30301 is flawless, so I'd recommend it to those who actually want to use an inexpensive but sturdy Da on their digital layouts. The classic 3030 is OK, but mainly of interest to collectors who want an early version in an illustrated box from the 1960s.

The 30340 almost looks like the 3043.1, but has a different road number and an mfx decoder. It was only sold by a well-known MRR shop in northern Sweden:

Tåg & Hobby Luleå

The Swedish Rc was rather pricey and is also nice, but less good value for money than the 30301: plastic body, no sound despite the high price ...

Best regards,
Mark

I like Märklin items produced in the 1960s or early '70s, but also digital locos & current rolling stock.

Hi,

The shop in Luleå has fitted some 30430 with Märklin sound decoders featuring Swedish station announcements, but in that improved version it costs 388 euros!!

Da 30301 is da most dalightful Da LOL It IS a great runner and it had LED lights so it is much more power efficient than most converted locos.

Better late than never.

I have the 30080, I am not sure if it was made in China but I think it is a terrific loco. The casting is absolutely flawless and so is the paint. The windows use a different plastic to the original milky one but it looks fine. Runs very well. I don't think it comes with the smoke generator which I thought it should have, the box is much taller than the original and the cardboard perhaps not as sturdy. Overall 110% happy with it. I bought it to use it but I like it so much that I won't and an original one will have to do the work for it. That is either in digital or analogue form. The original 3048 run very well at slow speeds so I imagine they will convert well even if you leave the three poles motor in it, that is with an ESU decoder.

By the way in your first post you talk about seeing a 3047 remake, I am not aware of a recent one or are you talking about the 3108?
You would be missing the remake of the 3050 or 30501 I think (double set) and that's presuming you draw the line in original 1960 and 50's locos as there are many from the 70's that were recycled one way or another.

If my 28590 Capitole belongs to this category of trains i can say that is perfect, locomotive and cars.My only complain is that there are no sounds for the loco.

I have the 30000 (not on your list) that reproduces the 3000 (a loco I really like) and it runs very well (but had problems when I first got it and Mike fixed it).

Runs FAST Flapper and is a pleasure to play with. On the down side, it is a bit light and the headlights are not so bright as the original.

I actually saved a bit of money by buying the new loco (about CAD$109.00 versus $140 for a transplant - albeit with an MFX decoder, plus 13% taxes in both cases).

The old 3000 is now retired (does not run very well and I gave up on Marklin analogue) but is kept in my own yet-to-be-built hall of fame of older locos. I would not dream of selling it.

Does it count here? The internals are very different and it does not come in a blue box.
The 30000 has only one axle powered by cogwheels - but the photo in the product database shows three axles powered by cogwheels.
Identical shape on the outside, but a completely new gear on the inside.

A few weeks ago there was a thread on Stummi's Forum about the 30000.
The thread starter wrote that a loco with all axles driven by cogwheels was to his liking.

He had found a special offer on a dealer site - the dealer had a hi-res version of Märklin’s photo.
It's a Märklin tradition to show photos of "handmade samples" in the product database. Photos that won't be updated when the series production starts, not even when the specs are changed.
The thread starter no longer was interested in that loco after he had heard about the internal.
The photo in this thread is just a "serving suggestion", not a photo of the real thing. When you buy it you get more visible screws and fewer visible cog wheels.

There are two versions of the 30000: one with load regulation (number should be 89 009) and one with Delta decoder (number should be 89 010).
The Delta version could be faster - just speculation, didn't have a chance to test the Delta version yet.
Regards
Tom

I had no trouble converting my existing old locos with a 5 pol high efficiency motor, ball bearings, led lights, gear lights, fire box, led's in the tender and some had no smoke stack hole. (3027), so by comparing them I would never get the same add one's as my old locos and if you leave them as they are well I would keep the original for sentimental reasons.

Thanks everyone. I'm still debating here, although in no rush to do anything as most train are in storage. I suspect I will end up doing conversions on what I have though. Either way nothing will happen until some sort of long term layout is planned. At that point if I can manage an analogue loop or two with signalling I may just leave them all as is :)

Same here - mine mostly sits on a siding on my layout. It still looks nice though and it is a reminder of where it all started for me. BigGrin

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Hi John, I don't think there has ever been a 30470 reissue loco, certainly if there has been I'll be really annoyed as it is one I wish Marklin would issue.

I do have 30210, 30050 and 30480 and think they're great and I love the blue boxes they come in.

Come on Marklin, please keep these reissues coming!

Hi everyone, looks like I'm diving in the deep end. My 31100 must be showing up at some point soon, and yesterday I bought a used -bu like new- pair of 30050 and 30080 locos, I look forward to giving them a home...

A 30301 is on the list, and maybe the capitole set if I can find one at the right price. The 30210 is a huge price gap from a 3021, and the originals aren't that unique so I will probably just convert that particular loco.

I'm looking forward to upgrading the fleet! All coaches will remain the originals though :)
