another newbie question...

is there a reason that there are 2 ways to control a point motor?

either with a concealed decoder fitted under the point
or
using the m83 accessory decoder - this seems the cheaper option esp if 4 points are physically close together.

or am i missing something here?

i understand the m83 can also control lighting ( + effects ) and things like the uncoupler ramp.

many thanks for any help as this has got me a bit confused. Crying

Other types of track, such as K-Track and the old M-track, don't have the ability to use the concealed decoder that fits directly only to C track. For these one has to use the K83 or M83.

You can also use the k83 or m83 with C track. As you say it is a cheaper option.

How soon we forget .....
Ref 6073
... and with good reason!

As to the 74460/74461/74463. I personally see almost no value in them at all , and certainly none that would sway me away from a 6083(0)/60831

As far as I know the 6073 was only available briefly. The standard decoder to use with M-track and K-track was the k83.

However this is not what I meant in my reply. I was referring to decoders available today, and I include the k83 because many shops will still have some in stock.

When setting up a carpet layout, I enjoy the concealed decoder in the road bed. I do not need any wires for that. When building a permanent layout, I would go for the m83 (or similar decoder), because it is cheaper for this purpose.
