hello,

can anyone explain to me the correct way to connect the 24997 uncoupler track to operate with a central station 2 controller? i read from the online instructions that it requires a burst of power - so that would mean connecting it to a points decoder and operating it like a point? or is there another way?

do the 2 wagons that i want to uncouple need to be in place with their couplers sitting over the uncoupler track and Then i give the command for the uncoupler to receive its " burst " of power?

or how? - the instructions are kind of vague as to how this item is to be operated!

many thanks for your help!

Yep.. You need a K83 or M83.. These things have four ports so one can be allocated to the uncoupler.

m83 is the new k83. The difference is that m83 can do much more than "just" operate points and uncoupler tracks. You can also turn on/off lighting, have a crossing blink and so on. It is a much more feature rich decoder than the old k83. And it supports DCC, which I like.

I've written a bit on the m83 on my website: http://railway.zone/post...-way-it-should-have-been

thanks guys for both your help!
today i have ordered k83 from joesmodellbahnlaedle in germany - should i program it in motorola mode or dcc mode?
i will never reach anywhere near the 320 / 1000+ device limits ... does 1 mode offer more / better functionality / ease of programming / use than the other?

many thanks once again in assisting with me spending my $ on marklin -))) lol

Did you really mean "k83"? Because that does not support DCC, only m83 does.

If you meant m83, I don't really think it matters if you use Motorola or DCC. What some times matter is that you stick to one protocol (for simplicity). I would recommend DCC, because in the long haul, you will probably end up with more DCC accessories than Motorola. Not all accessories speaks Motorola, a lot do, but not all.
