Ok ArrateBigGrin

I think that I understand your problem.

Your 74491 suffer from the disease of engines marklin: the purposes of running. Normally engines recently went out of Goppingen should no more have this problem. On another European forum nobody believes in this reliability. I do not believe in it.

Personally I proceeded to an operation: the cut of the purposes of running.

Be attention please : this is for 74490 engine

It is what Mike my dealer and friend told me: do not make it on 74491

On 74491 proceed as this:

What it needs to cut is indicated by the blue arrow

Good luck but I would wait for the notices of the other members who are more competent than me BigGrin

Recent 74490 and early 74491 are just the same.
Recent 74491 are a bit different.

If 74491 fail after a short time, they are most likely like the 74490 shown here.

Drives from at least May 2015 and later should not have this problem. I recently got a new batch from Märklin that I installed on my exhibition layout. So far they have been running without any problems. Ealier, even a weekends constant use would have some of the drives failing. This does not happen any more. The future will tell what to expect.

Märklin will change your old drives for new ones if you write them.

I have noticed that the ones I have that are of the "improved kind" have a serial number that starts with 220515nnn. or 220715nnn.. I think it is some kind of date. Here is a comparison of the new and old drive (the new one is the bottom one): http://baneforum.dk/view...64&hilit=74491#p8164

Hi sjlauritsen BigGrin

I am sorry but I am sceptical as for the reliability of these new engines.Blushing

I know at least 2 members of another forum who had problems of functioning after two months of useCrying

Personally I did not want to run a risk, I proceeded to the operation on the new engines as quite a lot of other members on the other forum, by precaution

If Marklin replace the defective engines, it is correct, but Marklin will not solve the problems of the change of engine in the turnouts in a hidden station, especially if we did not think of the accessibility and as we say in french : c'est la poisse la grosse M...eCursing Cursing Crying Crying

I speak only for me, each is free to make as he wishes for it

Have a nice dayBigGrin

I have had some fail even after 6 hours of use. The difference is that the post May 2015 drives had something changed in their electronics. They do not have a different product number, so you have to check the serial number.

I am also reluctant to put my arms in the air, but my initial tests do show that the drives work better than the older drives (with the same product number).
