I have to admit Marklin has made a huge progress in model trains around the lastest 10 years.
Not only insisting the metal construction and boiler transmiting but reinforcing the details with correct scale.
Especially, the great stuffs 39030 BR18.5 mfx+ & 39566 Crocodile mfx+ proved the facts aboved.
I'm pleased to have the 2 locs coming. Here are some pictures sharing with everyone.

Hi Shannon,

A very good photographic study of the two models ThumpUp

I got 37565.1 the brown version, MFX but no + and forum member Black Pete got the Green one, from Lokshop, a forum member joint purchase Wink

As with all MRR models in Photographs, the one thing that noticeably lets them down is the couplers, which if you were doing a prize winning study, would need to be removed, but very good all the same . Smile

I have 39030 waiting to ship right now from same dealer Wink and it is interesting and very pleasing to see the details of
it in your photos. Top marks to you or Marklin for the prototype coupler at the front of the 18.5 ThumpUp
One detail that stood out, is that there shows some coal use in the tender, rather than being full as Marklin usually seem to model them which I think is more realistic Smile

Hi, Glen
thanks for your admiration. I didn't study or dedicate to skill of photography. My tools are just only one table lamp, a piece of white paper beneath a piece of glass, a white painting wall as background and Panasonic LX-3 unchangeable lens camera.
Aperture, shutter, ISO and white balance are the key factors composing of a clear picture.

BR18.5 is a great masterpiece that you would be undisapointed.

Hi, i agree with you, highly details as great as Fleishmann BR18.6, the sound effects of 18.5 is absolutely amazing, realistic and are apparently different with the other locs that Marklin had made.
the lumination including headlights and interior lights are quite bright.

The only thing that i feel pity is no movable inner crank and rod from the 3th and 4th cylindr like Fleishmann BR18.6.

Relative to the Fleischman model of BR 18.6 is great, but the ones I saw had the loudspeaker inside the cabin completely visible....
I have no doubt in prefer the Märklin one (off ocurse have both is better :))) ). I think the BR18.5 of Märklin is one of the best models there is in HO. If it had the SDS, the Telex and the firebox led was more orange than red I think play with it was a nirvana :)

Best regards,
Miguel

that is a lot of tender.

Edit: Perhaps I am just late to notice, but the valve gear excentric arm on the center driver looks very nice. Not the stamped metal piece held in place with a nut, but a proper prototypical casting.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

Really detailed and great models!!! Nevertheless, IMHO Marklin should start working on a nicer type of coupler.

Probably best not to have the Meat man version, just another Marklin Model Wink ThumpUp

btw; I think I owe you a thanks, ThumpUp for a mention on the forum, of Modellbau Fischer, as a good German online M dealer, I had a look at their site and found a 37003 V100 I'd been looking for, and at a nice price Wink Smile

Yes, go back to the old 1950s Meatman coupler.
Who cares about close coupling??

While we're at it maybe we could go to the Hornby Tension lock type, described by some as resembling the remains of a level crossing gate the loco has just crashed through!

Seriously though, the beauty of the NEM standard coupler pocket is that we don't have to keep the coupler supplied by the manufacturer. Some prefer to fit Fleischmann or Roco close couplers, some prefer the NEM standard coupler, and some go for Kadee type knuckle couplers.

I myself prefer the Marklin close coupler. I think it's one of the most discrete spin-offs from the standard NEM coupler which still retains interoperability with it. The only draw back in my view is that it is hard to uncouple and remove from the track a wagon in the middle of a rake.

Marklin 39030 BR18 537 as the 2015 insider locomotive is a brand new tooling with mfx+ decorder equipped. Having 16 functions (f0-f15) in which, you can turn on / off headlight, interior light, fire lamp of firebox and smoking generator digitally .
The sound of whistle varies by random that you can hear differently long or short whistles.
The other sound effect like squealing brake is impressioned to me. Surprisingly braking noise accompanies sharply decerating wheels.
Many highly detailed piping and handrails and open bar chassis features this model high quality and insider representative.
