over a period of time the SBB will dismantle the signal system in Switzerlandand one section is already in operation. the driver has no longer to observe signals its all done automatic but a spokesman pointed out it will not lead to locos or trains without a loco driver.

That's a bit like the "Peace in our time" statement by a certain Prime Minister.. Blushing We have drones, even Google is testing self-driving cars and the trains at many airports are already driverless.. Time will tell - the question is how long..

Personally, I think that removing signals makes for a very dull layout.. Huh

Absolutely agree with you, Adrian. I have never been one to live in the past and I have always considered myself progressive BUT this is one instance

where I would model prior to the removal of signals. They're beautiful and keep a layout so interesting. Peter Cool

Oh ... and what would MicroScale do Confused

Working quite closely with technology I do marvel sometimes that advancement can also create a kind of visual blandness !!!

My layout will (eventually) have proper SBB Signals BigGrin

It's very similar with LZB in Germany: the train runs by itself and will stop before any red signal.
Few signals left at high-speed lines were only ICEs run.

Manual intervention is required to stop a train at a platform with a green signal. A few ICEs recently missed Wolfsburg because the signal at the platform was green.
This would not happen with driverless trains. But that would require a bit more computer-control.

Not all trains in Germany have LZB and light signals will stay on lines with mixed operation.
Regards
Tom
