Hello,

I was considering acquiring the new SBB Ae 610 from the 29484 Start Set until I saw the photos.
It seems that like the recent 37349 Re 4/4II TEE and the matching DB coaches, that Maerklin's paint department has once again delivered an underwhelming performance of overlapping the paint jobs.

There appears to be a darker blue band where the blue is painted over the red part of the locomotive shell.
You would think that with the advances in technology since the 1960s, that the work would be better than earlier models, but it seems that the Maerklin painters did a better job back in the day than the current models.

Based on this decision, I have decided that I will skip having a second Ae 610 Cargo in my collection. This has freed up a little space in my budget which has already gone for a second Roco 64397 Panorama coach in the new livery, which will be running with my ACME and RailTop OBB coaches. The first one already runs with my SBB IC and EC coaches as a typical Gotthard train.

I think that the remaining budget space will likely be dedicated to the acquisition of an additional LS Models SBB Sleeper in the 1970s TEN livery.

Regards

Mike C

It's always a matter of design goals.

It seems they favour cost-efficient production over perfect results.

The Ae 610 looks better than the latest Re 482.

These are deliberate errors introduced to show that only God can produce perfection....

(PS. This is not meant to be a religious comment! My apologies to the devout, I mean no offence!)

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.
