I decided to take a look at the coach with the taillights tonight. According to the instructions, you have to disconnect and remove the AC slider if you wish to use this coach in combination with the current conducting couplers when connecting to the digital decoder in the 43866 restaurant coach. Here is what I discovered:

Maerklin has not used the standard two piece LED lighting elements that are available for all other 28cm coaches. This model comes with a one piece lighting element and the wires are soldered to terminals rather than a pin and socket system like the 72400/72401. This means that you have to either desolder or cut the wire from the slider to the PC Board. meaning that it cannot simply be removed and reattached if you decide to use the coaches without the restaurant coach at a later time. If you have the dexterity to remove the solder and disconnect the wire from the PC board, you can then re-use the slider on another coach. If you cut the wire at the slider end, you will either have to remove the wire completely and solder on a new wire if you wish to re-use the slider.

This got me wondering if this lighting kit can be individually purchased from Maerklin. If I decide to put lights in my 26557 TEE Bavaria or Trix 23477 TEE Roland set, it would be nice if the coaches had the same lighting effect.

Frankly it would be good if this was released as a standard item for certain wagons. No flickering, either!

My set was almost 100% ok.
Just make sure there is only the pick up on the restaurant car.
Nice feature to have the train lights controlled by the one decoder, but the table lights in the bar/salon are not lighted like the ones the the Wr.
Just a small Schönheitsfehler! Blink Glare
Must be Märklin.
Just FYI, my Blauer Enzian set also came in three days ago.
A disaster! With a couple of bodies separated from the chassis, a few bogie skirts just not coming back straight and a number of conductive coupling mechanisms not assembled properly.
Must be a monday morning assembly item.Cursing
Haven't bought a single item in the last 12 months that did not exhibit some problem.

Steven,

it would be helpful if you would provide more details for the other members about the nature of the problem with your 43854.
Was it due to the paint issue (beige over red) or were there other issues.
The only issue that I could find was that the washroom window on the ARDmuh bar coach is not painted.
Other than that, my set was acceptable.

I do not think that Maerklin will repaint the set unless there are missing details like the 43853 reported above.

Mike C

I have not to order the 43853/43854.

It is pretty sad when you consider that up until maybe 20 years ago, they would paint the models by hand and would carefully use masking tape so that the dividing line between the colours would be perfect. Now, with "better" technology, they paint one colour first and then layer the second colour over part of it, leaving a transition zone which is visible.
Whether it be the 37349 Re 4/4II or the BR 118 seen above, both are still better than the effort put into the 37446 Re 482, where areas that should have been painted blue were left red and the lack of care was visually distressing when compared to the Trix 22631 from just a few years earlier.

At least with the Re 482, I was able to locate a Trix model at a great price and swapped shells. For the 37349, I already had the 37343 and the Trix 22148, so a shell swap with another TEE Lok was out of the question, but I managed to find a 34344 shell at a great price and since both models are of the same locomotive (Re 4/4II 11252), I did not even have to change the mfx address.

If you are willing to spend the money, there are solutions, but if you want that exact model, as released, you will have to live with the shortcomings as delivered.

My eyes aren't what they used to be, but I have to say I had to look really hard to see what the "problem" is on this loco. Now I see there is a small overlap at the transition, but honestly I wouldn't even have noticed!

I contact Marklin about the issue, I ask Marklin to make sure carefully spray paint on Insider 39170 BR103 as one piece loco body as seen on Marklin TV.

The old BR103 such as 37575, 37576 etc have two piece loco body (top yellow and bottom red).
