Hello

Over 10 years ago, whilst living in Germany, I purchased the 29859 starter kit. This comes with the 6021 control unit. I also purchased the following signals: 7036, 7241 and 7242. And I have a 7272 control box. Over the years we have added additional sets and also have a CS1.

Now that the grandkids are older, my husband and I have decided to create a semi permanent layout.

We followed the instructions that come with the 7241 signal. But have not been able to use the signal to stop the train. In reading through this forum, it appears that we may need the K 83 decoder. Also read that this has been replaced with 6084 and 6088.

Am I missing the decoder ? Is there a wiring diagram for this ? Apologies if this is a duplicate question. I searched through the forum and found lots of great links and advice which helped hubby and I to solve some of the other issues.

Thanks in advance.

It appears you didn't follow the wiring instructions, otherwise the trains would stop without a decoder. Wink

To install the signal with C track, you need an insulated section where the signal controls the power to the centre rail.

These are the 74030 insulators for C track:
http://archiv.maerklin.d...=&wishednumber=74029

Did you install such red insulators before and after the signal?

There even is a 74043 set for signal installation:
http://archiv.maerklin.d...=&wishednumber=74029

You do not need a k83 decoder (aka 6083, 60830, 60831), but can use one to control the signal from the CS1. And decoders 6084, 60840, 60841 are k84 decoders that serve a different purpose. And 6088 are yet another type. Confused

Start simple - signal should work without a decoder.
Regards
Tom

Hi HO,

Thanks for the reply. The insulators are installed before and after the signal. My wiring is the first graphic in the instruction leaflet that came with the signal. Here is what I have done:

One Red wire before the insulated section to the signal
Red and Brown from the insulated section to the signal
Blue and Yellow wires from the signal are not connected anywhere
Signal is on the base plate

Used 6021 control unit

No light comes on on the signal.

Thanks,

Mary.

By the way, how do I attach diagrams or pictures to a post ?

Because the yellow wire is not connected.
Blue wires should go to a control box.

Use the clipper symbol from the toolbar that shows on the "Post a reply" screen.

No luck getting the light to work. Pretty sure that I am missing some connection. I will take a picture later this evening when I get home and post it.

Update: Hubby took apart the 7241. Found a couple of open circuits. Fixing and checking. He thinks it should work when he puts it back together.

7421 signal is working. As usual, learnt a lot from resolving this issue. Thanks for the help on what to look for.
