I have a number of tinplate USA boxcars, they all have end covers on both sides with vertical braketubing and brakewheels.

Not so for the new 47760-03,it has braketubing and a brakewheel on one side only.

Funny enough, the artist impression in the latest Marklin catalogue shows brakewheels on both sides.

I wonder if this is applicable to this Missouri Pacific boxcar only or whether Marklin have redone their homework on USA boxcars in general.

Anyone please?

All of the recent tinplate style US boxcars only have the one brake wheel, the cars from the 45644 set are like this as well.

Good eye!

Thanks,Gordon.

What does this mean, that Marklin got it wrong from the start in the early sixties?
Also, how come that the artist impressions are wrong?
Clearly, the new style tinplate boxcar has two different end covers, one has vertical braketubes, the other has not.

Sharp eye: i am a bit focussed on the brakewheels of tinplate boxcars because these are tiny plastic wheels which easily depart from the cars.
I bought the blue with yellow cat B&O boxcar from internet and when it arrived it had one brakewheel missing, rather annoying.

It does appear as though the early models are not prototypical with their dual brake wheels and rigging. I think Märklin made the change in the mid 1990's as the 47780 PFE car has the newer style bulkhead with only one brake wheel.

The brake wheels can be found pretty easily on ebay, part number E322790, the fun part is reaming out the leftover material from the broken wheel.
