Can any of our members who have made a visit to - www.bahn.hfkern/maerklin/dr website confirm that is has been taken down - great tragedy if it has.

Many thanks in advance

Yes, http://www.bahn.hfkern.de/ is dead. Alternative address http://www.hfkern.gmxhome.de/ is almost dead. Main menu pops up, but it is not possible to drill down. Was already confirmed on Stummiforum and Drehscheibe-Online. A Stummiforum post on 25/03/2015 observed that the main frames were done with Microsoft Frontpage 4.0 which was released in 1999...

Try;

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.bahn.hfkern.de/maerklin/menue.html

You may find what you need via there, however when I had a quick glance it looks familiar to another site.......... arh....... its gone poof as well http://www.hfkern.de/

Guess its time to start copying and pasting what you need from wayback.
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

WinHTTrack can't capture the archived website, but it seems Adobe Acrobat will (is) capturing the website (the Marklin bits) ok. Some images are missing, but the important info seems to be there. The archive I've accessed is from 2012, but I'm fairly sure the website hasn't been updated for years!

Thanks for the link Shamu.

I think the database at gleiswarze.de incorporates the data from Mr Kern - and much more:
http://mobadb.gleiswarze...ureihe=18.4&fzg=true

And everybody can help to make this database better.

I like the compact tables from Mr Kern, but maybe it is time to get used to the database.
Well, the contents are German, the UI is German. But Mr Kern's pages are German and it doesn't take much to fill the search form of the database.
Regards
Tom

Hello.

I had downloaded the entire site before...

If it's a common interest I could upload it here...

Should I?

23MByte zipped.

Cheers,

Walter

No, you should not upload it here for copyright reasons...

For the moment I'm using the archived version as noted above, but I'm planning to save all the data into my own document for easy reference, and perhaps replace the missing photos and add new ones. I already have my own locomotive database which I keep up to date, but I like how Kern has arranged his pages and plan to copy it.

(Note to myself - Enter the 2015 Summer new items!)

BTW, does anyone know what happened to Mr Kern? Has he passed away or merely lost interest in the hobby?

I apologise if it's already been discussed, but I can't recall reading about it.

Thanks Walter

what if you upload it into any of the cloud shares and give access to one who requests it?

What about if it was in a non public file that could only be accessed by members of the site ???

Helmut Kern's website seems to be broken again again - getting 404 errors, which means the webpage doesn't exist.

We do have copies of it though, maybe Juhan can get permission to host it.

Hi all,

I didn't realize the site was going/in jeopardy. How are you all saving it? I went to download some sbb pages and if I print to pdf or save as pdf it will only save the window with scrolls (sample attached) vs the actual whole page

Thanks in advance!

Wayback Machine.pdf (110kb) downloaded 57 time(s).

I found that to properly capture the Kern website I had to set the WinHTTrack proxy in my browser proxy list settings

"Please TEMPORARILY set your browser's proxy preferences to:

Proxy's address:
fe80::a882:ad55:a832:db1e
Proxy's port:
8080"

Remember to remove the setting when you're finished.

Thank you for posting these links. Seems though that the LCTM link only has the Marklin portion of the site and not other European train makers such as ROCO, Lilliput etc.

So If you want the whole archive you will need to check here:
