Hi all,

I'm searching photos of the NYC ALCO PA-1. I want to find out the prototypical color (colour) of the light.

I have googled, but nothing useful founded. There are a lot of photos, but they don't show the exact version of my ALCO PA-1 (Märklin 29575) and I need the exact version, because the light is different from the others... The model has very yellow-orange colored (coloured) light. I'm thinking about changing the light-board. But therefore, I need some information about the light of the prototype.

Thank you very much in advance
kind regards

Robert

Here is a photo of and some info on the exact prototype, NYC road number 4210:

US model railroad maker Broadway Limited proudly marketed the NYC Alco PA with a "golden white" headlight. Besides, I did not detect any other indication.

Maybe the modeling section of the New York Central System Historical Society website offers more insight:

Hello,

thank you for very much for your efforts.

I know the photo of the 4210. Unfotunately, the loco on the photo hasn't turned the light on, so I couldn't see the color.

In the model section of the NYCSHS, I haven't found something about the PA-1 light.

The information of "golden white" is good. "Golden white" couldn't be yellow-orange. (And if it's LED, it's probably anyway rather cold-white - like in europe.)

However, maybe one will still yet find a photo of the light.

kind regards Smile

I could be wrong, but looking at vintage color photos, it seems as if the headlight is turned on:

And Howard Fogg - a painter who was trying to capture the real look - painted them with functioning headlight, too:

Hi guys,

While we are chatting NYC PA-1's, i was wondering if any of you have come across a thread I made in 2005-2006 documenting conversion of a 49610 UP alco into a NYC slave unit, in order to create an AA unit? I fear it may have been lost to a server swap or something over time, (I never kept the images on my hard drive) but thought I'd ask since these alcos were currently being discussed.

thanks!

I know that forum member Florian (aka Frankenbahner) used to own a double-headed (and double-motorized) NYC Alco PA. You could PM him...

You do not have to change the complete light board. Change the LEDs to the colour of your choice and adjust the brightness with higher or lower value resistors on the standard light boards.

Hi Marius,

yes. I know that I could change only the leds and the resistors. But they are so little and I'm afraid that I can't solder good enough yet. Unsure
But perhaps I'll try.

kind regards
