G'day all,

have searched the net, googled, binged and anything else that is a search engine, and couldn't find the proposed dates for the Märklintage 2013.

Granted it was a male lookBigGrin Blink , and I did look on the Märklin site as well, but no luck.

Anybody out there knows what the dates are? Or even if the date has been set?

Also hope this is in the right topic area.Confused

Many thanksThumpUp

I've been sending emails to the Insider Club and the same reply comes back - "They don't know". This probably means that there won't be one in 2012. Cursing Cursing Cursing

The "Marklin Days" or "Marklin Treff" as they used to be called, are only held every two years and the next one is due in 2013 because they were held last year in conjunction with the IMA exhibition, which is an annual one in Cologne usually I think. Marklin did have a "Marklin Family Day" on alternate years but now combine the Treff and the Family Day in the "Marklin Days" every two years. ThumpUp

I've read somewhere that it is held every second year.

In 2011 it was September 16th - 18th and in 2009 it was September 19th - 20th.

So my guess, based on the earlier dates, is that it will be in 2013 and either at the end of week 37, September 13th - 15th (it was in week 37 in 2011) or at the end of week 38, September 20th -22nd (it was in week 38 in 2009). These days assume that IMA would take place in Göppingen and therefore being a 3-day event.

(Then there is always the question if there are superstitious people in the organizing committee, then perhaps the later dates would apply in order to avoid Friday 13th).

That's for sure.
This thread is about Märklin Days 2013.

IMA at Cologne is every other year. There will be one in 2012 and the next one in 2014.

Maybe it's not yet decided if the IMA 2013 will be at Göppingen.
Regards
Tom

Count me in for 2013.

Aiming to head over for IFA in Berlin so hopefully it isn't too late... and then there is Oktoberfest of course! :)

Cheers!

I haven't seen any information yet, but as I wrote earlier:

"In 2011 it was September 16th - 18th and in 2009 it was September 19th - 20th.

(Then there is always the question if there are superstitious people in the organizing committee, then perhaps the later dates would apply in order to avoid Friday 13th)."

So I wouldn't be surprised if you would be on the safe side if you include both weekends in your vacation planning.

Well they didn't seem to worry about Friday the 13th so best to arrive the day before which would be ideal anyway to take advantage of a day at the Treff with less people around Sneaky

Thank you for posting the information about Marklin days in 2013. I have booked the week before, and the week following that weekend. Now to book a hotel before they fill up. I just hope my plans do not get disrupted.
The members of this forum are wonderful. They are helpful, and patient.
Thank you for all your help.

Hi All,
Dave Cowl and I have been in touch (& He was in NZ lastweek) I know him from Euro West last year. Anyway, from the 12th - 16th we have both booked the last single rooms at this place ;http://www.hotel.info/booking.aspx?gclid=CNuztei07LECFUdNpgodRlQAMQ&hs_hmid=207272&cpn=46&cpnll=371

They do however have as at today have 5 double room available @ 77.50eu/night, which having checked Goppingen, no decent hotel rooms left I believe is reasonable for their rateing of 3.5 stars which is four plus in the US and Orestralia & NZ Flapper

Eislingen is four km from Goppingen, it's actually walkable but the train will work as well; Dave made an accomodation map of the area see here;
https://maps.google.com/...mp;spn=0.096816,0.264187

Other than that I would suggest trying Esslingen or Susan (close to Eislingen for alternatives) That map is moveable so you can have a look around. I hope to be spending time in maybe France, and Switzerland before the Treff after flying into Frankfurt and Eurail passing Blink everywhere, ie Traveling by train using the Eurail pass.
After the Treff, going to Munich, Nueremberg, (DB Museum) maybe Vienna and the Semmering line, then from Nueremburg on the new high speed line to Berlin, some things to do there for a few days then accross to Hamburg & MiWuLa and then south to Frankfurt again to fly out about two weeks or so after the Treff, or back track to Munich for Octoberfest Drool and maybe fly out from there if I can get a connection to the US.
anyhow any suggestions or people wanting to join in let's know Smile ThumpUp E&OE Wink

Glen and others,

Going a bit further away from Göppingen, and only about half an hour by train, you'll have Stuttgart with a large selection of hotels, and also better shopping opportunities if you are travelling with your FD.

I have personal experience from staying in Stuttgart in 2011 and even if I didn't go by train, since I had my car, having driven down from Sweden (around 1650 km [a bit over 1000 miles] one way), staying at Mercure Stuttgart City Center (hotel information) and appropriately on a floor called the "Märklin floor". I picked this hotel because it had a parking garage and still only a few minutes from an Underground/Tram station and Hauptbahnhof or 15 to 20 minutes walk to the city centre (around 10 minutes to Hauptbahnhof). When I visited Göppingen, my wife preferred to stay in Stuttgart and went clothes shopping. (As a hint comparing the credit card spending afterwards, what I bought at Märklin, IMA and at Eisenbahn Treffpunkt Schweickhardt seemed very moderate in comparison. BigGrin ).

Being in Stuttgart, if you are interested also in cars, you'll find both the Mercedes and Porsche museums in town.

Returning to the topic of shopping, about 30 km (close to 20 miles) by car south of Stuttgart you'll find the small town of Metzingen, once the site of Hugo Boss factories, now a very attractive outlet centre (Link). You can also go there by train and it takes about 45 minutes from Stuttgart Hbf. There is also a bus shuttle service from some Stuttgart hotels. (See "How to reach OUTLETCITY METZINGEN" at the bottom right of the Internet page).

Just for promotions sake, here is an extensive video of activities at Goppingen Station during the 2011 Marklin Days. Should wet the appetite of HO Marklinists and 1/1 scalers as well ;
