I'm way out of my usual area here. I model the Oahu Railway and Land Co. in 1:20.3. But, having a German National as a girl friend who also liks trains, I purchased a 1:32 Marklin Adler for her. I'm not sure what I have though. In wandering around the web I see there is a Gauge 1 Adler No. 55175 with three covered 3rd class cars and a No. 5750 with four cars that apper to be a first, two second and one open third class car. What I have is a set with three cars, one each firsat, second and third class. The locomotive driver covers are brass, not red and the car's wheel spokes are gray vice red. How many Adler sets did/has Marklin made and what the heck do I have?

Thanks Sprogger,

5751 matches what I have. I bought the set without the boxes, paperwork and figures and there's some slight easily repairable damage. It's to be a runner and not a shelf queen. Thanks again for providing some direction.

Thank you Ian,

I rather wish I could go back to HO but as my eyes got older my trasins had to get larger. I tried out the locomotive yesterday evening on a 5 by 20 foot diorama layout we built for the Bishop Museum here in Honolulu. Adler ran perfectly but sure looked strange steaming through cane fields, plantation homes and a sugar mill.

I note there are two plugs on the "locomotive" and two recepticles on the tender. Are these polarity sensitive and I got lucky when I ran it yesterday?

Any idea as to when these three Adler sets were manufactured? The 5751 I have has "150 Jahre" on the bottom so I assume it was made about 1985. What about 5750 and 55175?

Thanks for all the help.

Hi Jeff,

5750 and 5751 were both made in 1985. 5750 (with four cars) shows the train as it was in service in 1835. 5751 (three cars) is a model of the historic train which was rebuilt in 1935 and back in service in 1985. 55175 was released in 2010 and shows the restored train as it exists today. The original train (from 1935) was seriously damaged in a fire at the Nuremberg train museum in 2005 and was restored again:

Thank you Markus,

I was fortunate enough to visit six railroad museums in Germany last yesr with all three DB museums included. I saw the static Adler in Nuremberg but did not locate the operational Adler. Now these three sets make sense to me.
