I have found myself in the big smoke longer than expected due to delays with compliance on my imported car.

Is there any activity happening at the clubrooms worthy of a visit, maybe tomorrow evening? I should have thought of it earlier as tonight was free also.

I'm staying in Glenfield and after helping a friend with some computer woes tomorrow I should be free later in the afternoon.

Happy to catch up with anyone who might be free either Thursday late afternoon / evening or possibly Friday morning?

Cheers

Hi Glen,

It was sadly, very short notice. I did not expect my car would take as long through Compliance and thought I would be heading back to Wellingtown well and truly by Wednesday.

When I found out 'twas not to be I seized my moment, I believe Mike sent out an email to the Ak club members but yes it was only a days notice.

I'll try to do better next time.

And don't forget, Wellington Marklin Model Railway Club has it's monthly meeting Last Friday of every month, at our Upper Hutt clubrooms should anyone find themselves in Wellington and able to fit the evening into their schedule.

A ride can often be arranged as well with members heading out there from all over Wellington (or we can even collect from Upper Hutt station if you wanted to experience the suburban EMU's).

Glen, if you refer to Macca's thread re Wellington Railway Station celebrating it's 75th birthday (http://www.marklin-users.net/fo...ion-celebrates-75th.aspx) then yes I did see / comment in it, but we still ain't seen / heard much of Macca lately!

Hope all is well with him!

Ha ha, despite what you might read, Wgtn's Suburban Rail Network is by and large quite reliable - and I have a direct comparison with Melbourne where the delays, missed stations, cancelled trips etc made almost daily news. Bigger network of course but it gave me some comfort that Wellington was hanging in there.

Hi Steve,
As a young Wellingtonian (is that a Wellwoodpecker these daysUnsure LOL Blushing ) in the late 50's/60's I remember I found the S bahn totally perfect, any delay, and there were precious few of them, would have meant more time to check the trains out, including the odd Steamer doing the Long Hauls ThumpUp . School holidays were an event, not to be missed, well actually how could I RollEyes ,when I always was taken by my Mother out to Heretaunga to visit Nana, Aunty and Cousins Woot on the Suburban Trains ( Units or S Bahn).
A fact recently reminded to me by one of the Cousins was that it alternated every holidays with them coming to town. So going out there was a treat that escalated as a few years went by, cause Uncle being a Chief Customs officer and closet MRR fan, imported lots of Hornby, and had quite a layout spirited away in their Attic, lest He got caught Wink. (You needed an import licence for most things in those days)
Strangely I never saw the Trains in operation so when at age 9 or so I got my own trains, I was ready for them and quckly moved from Triang Hornby to Marklin BigGrin
The other strange thing I learn't recently was that Uncle had some Marklin Trains as well, no doubt I believe, because of the reliability of my layout which allways sprang into action when requested by visitors ThumpUp (Cause it was well connected and maintained by me SneakyBlushing )
However whilst in Melbourne you probably missed the trouble the new "Matangi" Units were giving them in Wellywood ThumbDown
