Hi Glen,
A ride can often be arranged as well with members heading out there from all over Wellington (or can even collecr from Upper Hutt station if you wanted to experience the suburban EMU's).

Hi Steve,
Gee that'd be fun, could we be asured of getting to the meeting before it finishes
Ha ha, despite what you might read, Wgtn's Suburban Rail Network is by and large quite reliable - and I have a direct comparison with Melbourne where the delays, missed stations, cancelled trips etc made almost daily news. Bigger network of course but it gave me some comfort that Wellington was hanging in there.
Hi Steve,
As a young Wellingtonian (is that a Wellwoodpecker these days

) in the late 50's/60's I remember I found the S bahn totally perfect, any delay, and there were precious few of them, would have meant more time to check the trains out, including the odd Steamer doing the Long Hauls

. School holidays were an event, not to be missed, well actually how could I

,when I always was taken by my Mother out to Heretaunga to visit Nana, Aunty and Cousins

on the Suburban Trains ( Units or S Bahn).
A fact recently reminded to me by one of the Cousins was that it alternated every holidays with them coming to town. So going out there was a treat that escalated as a few years went by, cause Uncle being a Chief Customs officer and closet MRR fan, imported lots of Hornby, and had quite a layout spirited away in their Attic, lest He got caught

. (You needed an import licence for most things in those days)
Strangely I never saw the Trains in operation so when at age 9 or so I got my own trains, I was ready for them and quckly moved from Triang Hornby to Marklin
The other strange thing I learn't recently was that Uncle had some Marklin Trains as well, no doubt I believe, because of the reliability of my layout which allways sprang into action when requested by visitors

(Cause it was well connected and maintained by me

)
However whilst in Melbourne you probably missed the trouble the new "Matangi" Units were giving them in Wellywood
