Today I bought from a Dutch collector a Marklin Eloc 3051(1), manufactured 1965-1967, that was never been out of the box and has never ride.

The Loc looks as if it just came off Marklin's assembly line.

It is in the best possible condition a 3051(1) can possibly be in.

When a seller says his item is in a perfect condition, this almost never seems to be the case.
Well, except today !

Yes I know, its sounds all a bit unbelievable... but believe me, it is the truth, see the pictures.

The pick up shoe, wheels and gear wheels has no scratches what so ever, and looks bright and shinny.

Maybe there is no second 3051(1) in this condition ??

I'm afraid to ride this loco, especially on my 3600 series tracks, which are as bumpy like hell.

Even the wheelhouses has still the shinny deep black color, normally this bleaches over the years and turns into grey.

Now I have got two 3051(1) loco's.

Thanks Ian and Ray!

In a week or so, I'm going to visit the NS1200 in the railroad museum in Utrecht-Holland, and take some pics together with the Marklin 3051.
It is a really impressive machine if you standing next to it.
And you can smell and feel the 1950s....

The collector I spoke off, has more 1950s /1960s Marklin and Primex beauties for sale in the same condition.
Maybe I bring him a second visit. But what do I tell my wife ??

What you tell your wife, is to get a Hobby. Mine is into Doll's houses, those can be expensive too. :-)

That new Lok sure looks very clean and tidy. Did it come with the original Inspection Tag?, they are always nice to have and sadly often missing from older items even though they look like they have never been run or even out of the box.

Cheers

With most older locos, they are great runners, give you years of enjoyment and they are as solid as a rock but one thing has bothered me lately, is the pantographs, I know if you change them, ou change the original look of the locos but if you use them like me it is an anormous improvement to see any loco from this era with prototypical panthographs.

I've changed them on the following locos:
3038 (French Class 9200)
most of my Austrian locos
BR 110, 140, 141, 194, 151, E 63 and many others and when I get time I'll change the BR 103.
It gets quite expensive as they are not cheap (Sommerfeldt)
