Hi,
Item 42610 5 cars in a post-1956 colouring with the DB keck, for the "Blauer Enzian" / "Blue Gentian" "F-Zug" express train Munich to Hamburg via Augsburg. I believe a V200 was the loco of choice, but that would not preclude the modeler from choosing something else 2 end cars have a panoramic curved window glass, which looks very distinctive, and extremely well modeled. Fully LED lit interior, with centre pick-up on one end car. The cars couple very closely with the supplied current conducting spigots. The bogies swivel independently within swivelling skirts, which work well. I ran this set behind a streamlined 03 (37914) quite fast through both R1 and R2 curves, curved points (backward also), and one reverse curve through a double-slip crossover. I had no problems running this set. The lighting is very even throughout the model. Overall, I found this model quite perfect in terms of detail and paintwork. I don't know why the end corridors (gangways) were not modeled on these cars, maybe the originals did not have any. Anway, when close coupled you see nothing.
I am past installing lighting in all except the odd car, so I find purchase of fully lit sets from Marklin, a sensible use of my $. I recommend this set.

Hi, Kimball, Thanks for the review. Originally Posted by: kimballthurlow The bogies swivel independently within swivelling skirts, which work well. Hi Kimball, I do not plan to buy the set, but I would really like to see pics (other than the ones from the catalogue ), and if possible a video? Cheers, Ricky

Grear review Kimball, it appears to be a very nice set, I really love the end cars with the panoramic view, very unique, at least in Europe. |

Cheers, Ricky Hi Ricky, I would love to do a video, but not up to that yet, I don't have a video camera. My grandchildren are not quite old enough yet to do it (give them another 2-5 years). Thanks for the comments and the tip anyway. regards Kimball |

Hi Kimball,
Does your 42610 set include some sort of instruction manual where you can see how the car bodies can be taken apart in order to install/repair interior lighting?
Have you tried installing marker lights on the tail car?
I happen to have the Henschel-Wegmann model, which did not come with factory-installed interior lighting. And I am racking my brains trying to install suitable lighting kits in it. No instructions whatsoever provided by Märklin.
Thanks in advace! |
Best regards, Armando García

I found a video showing the train: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGm_goMBY7gThe train is primarily shown on straight track, but if you know what to look for you'll see that not all moving skirts return to their centred position, especially on the final coach. In curves there are large gaps between the coaches (which is normal for coaches and even the VT 08.5) - no moving parts to hide the gap (like M* did for the VT 11.5). |

I read something similar, once before , but it was about the Insider wegman coaches with yellow/blue livery from Era 2.... I had one test with a complete train of new dark blue coaches from Era 3 , I did not noticed any problems...

Hi,
Kenneth, thanks for your comments. Armando, in reply to your question about instructions. The set comes with a booklet, it describes the consist sequence, the coupling methods, and how to add the end detail (hoses etc) which is supplied, if you want. There are no dis-assemply instructions.
I am pleased to report that I have run this train for quite a length of time, and must say it performs flawlessly. I took particular note of the skirts, and could not see any evidence of them sticking, or remaining open. I particularly noticed that the lighting, unlike much of that I install myself (and supplied with older sets), is completely flicker-free (completely), and I found this particularly pleasing. (As you can see I love the word particular).
For a mass-produced plastic product, this set is very good value. I can compare it with a fully lit hand-made brass set of cars, which will cost anything up to 8 times the price.
